Whis is Better: 1.28 or 1.6 Flush Toilets

I need to get a new toilet and was wondering are the newer 1.28 flush toilets as good as the 1.6 toilets? I have heard they are still having some unnamed "problems". They also have the dual flush systems now and was interested in any info/experience people have had with them. I am interested in getting a toto. Does anyone have any experience with the super slick finishes they are using on some of the toilets to minimize cleaning? Thanks

I have a Toto. It is a little more difficult to install(when on concrete or tile) I still say if you can afford the toto, buy it. We can flush solids with the .9 gal flush. No splashing when men go standing. If you have young boys, buy the "slow down" seat and lid.

If you have a large household (and thus, many flushes per day), or if you live some place where conserving water is a major priority because of drought conditions or because water or sewage rates (based on water usage) are a major concern, then it makes sense to go with the most water conserving appliances that you can find. Otherwise choose a standard 1.6 gallon flush toilet, or if you want to be eco-minded, a dual-flush toilet.

Otherwise, the premium you'll pay for the lower volume flush units probably doesn't make sense. Is one better than the other? I don't know. Off-hand, I'd say that a toilet using less water would be the better choice, but the 1.6 gallon units now have a reputation for working well. The reputation of the 1.28 gallon units is less well-proven. If you're very much inclined toward saving resources, it might make sense to go with a dual-flush unit. That way, you can be the judge and decide which works best on a flush-by-flush basis.

There is not enough water in low flush toilets to totally remove all waste, all the time. Actually, I have one of the Toto double cyclone toilets (the Soiree) and decided to move it from my master bathroom to my guest bathroom. I don't find the flush of the double cyclone to be anywhere near as vigorous as the G-Max flush of the UltraMax. So I ordered a Toto Lloyd for the master bath that has the G-Max flush, as I already own an UltraMax Toto in my powder room and am very happy with it. But that doesn't mean that the UltraMax always cleans out the toilet on the first flush, but it does so far more often than the double cyclone models. The Toto Drake is probably Toto's least expensive toilet with the G-Max flush, if pricing is a concern. Greg

We had two Eco Drake toilets installed 4 months ago and we are very happy with the performance. I don't know what a water spot means in your question but the flush is very powerful and effective. (I see in the link I have below that water spots are mentioned and are large). Occasionally, just as with our old American Standards, sometimes you need to use a toilet brush. We have had no clogs or need for a plunger. I am thrilled with how fast they refill and I know with 3 new Totos in our house we have reduced our water usage. I bought ours at a local green building supply place. Just googling it now I amazed at how low the price is on efaucets...$210 plus $80 shipping. I'm pretty sure we paid about $400 for it. This is a funny thread. I have installed a lot of toilets. I haven't been in the business in many years, but when I re-modeled our bathrooms I went Toto and much prefer the separate trap assembly and bowl design the yhave over any others. I also prefer a skirted toilet as they are much easier to clean. Prior to moving here we bought the place and our daughter lived in it. One of the toilets was on the blink so she went out and bought a Drake. I have the same, uhhh, body chemistry issues as the original poster. It is a double pumper. I agree with the Sangloss statement about it shedding the skid marks, but that leaves "discolored" water in the bowl. One of the things I like the best about the Toto is the Bidet toilet seats that wash and dry your bottom. I've shaved my head for a long time and have decided that a wash and dry on the other end is pretty cool. Opinions may vary;) The other toilet in the house is a Wellworth (Kohler). It is date stamped 1936 production. Kohler have very few skirted toilets today. This 77 yr old toilet is in remarkable condition and I am going to re-build it and keep it. We have hard water issues here and with my re-build of the kitchen and baths I will be adding treatment, but the 77 yr old Kohler has much less of the brown iron ring at the water level than the 4 yr old Toto

No. The flush works by gravity and there is nothing you can add to the toilet to change how it operates. Unless there is something that is interfering, such as a clog in the trap or blockage in the sewer line, the only way to avoid such problems is to replace the toilet with a model/brand that performs better, such as a Toto Drake.

Look at the CUWCC MaP testing results. Use that as a guide in making your decision. IIRC, the Toto Aquia did better than some of their Eco models. Go for specifics (model and results), not generalizations (1.28 vs. 1.6?)
