Wow, I'm new to the forum and have posted a couple questions in other sections on the forum and have received a lot of help. Apparently this was not an appropriate question--sorry to waste anyone's time.

I would say Kohler makes the best looking toilets with the worst flushing mechanisms. For the rest you pretty much get what you pay for.

I'm not building, but most of my appliances are getting up in years and have been reading these forums also, but for the "just in case" info if they need to be replaced. It's a very frustrating subject because not every toilet from American Standard is crappy (pardon the pun) but I absolutely hate mine. I just ordered a Toto to replace it (I have one in the other bath). The flushing part of it was okay if you could get the handle to stay on(which kept falling off) and the mechanism inside the tank (don't know what you call it) did it's job. I never had a problem with the flapper leaking which a lot of people seem to have. You can read reviews all day, but I think personal experience is the best rule of thumb most of the time. From my experience, stay away from American Standard, but there may be many people out there that love theirs. Faucets, I think there you definitely get what you pay for. Yanked out my Grohe faucet (their customer service is great) and replaced it with a Kohler, but come to find out it was the crud from the hot water tank that was gunking both of them up. Hope this little bit helps you.

I think the problem with the OP's post is that it is so very broad. The OP doesn't give any parameters at all, like budget, high-end or low-end, style (modern, traditional?), taste, size of renovation (1 bathroom, 4 bathrooms?), nothing. I think the OP needs to narrow down questions a little, and then I am sure the people on this Forum will be glad to help. For instance, faucets - are you thinking Home Depot style, or something like glamorous Newport Brass? (love my Newport Brass, but they have 2-month lead times). Are you seeking finishes like polished nickel or oil-rubbed bronze, or is chrome fine? Toilets - I love my Toto's, but they were pricey. Worth every penny according to me, but others feel that American Standard is just as good for a fraction of the price. Sinks - are you talking plain ol' sinks, or undermounted, or the fashionable above-counter bowls? Can you see what I am getting at here? The choices are too vast to answer your post until you narrow it down to more specific questions.

I agree with Jakethewonderdog that the best thing for the OP to do is to read through some threads on this forum (and the Bathrooms Forum too BTW - very helpful), use the search function for specific topics, and then come back with more specific questions. Really, OP, we want to help you, but you need to give us a little guidance as to what you are looking for.

I will comment w/o chastising, In general I would avoid anything made in China, most all American made products seem to be quite good. TBS, with cast iron there is no other choice than made in China I believe (I could be wrong) as even Kohler now has their cast tubs and some toilets made in China. I swear by Kohler wellworth toilets.
Price Phister makes faucets that are a good value.
Pick up a faucet and feel it's weight, those made of solid brass will be of better quality for sure.
I have used some faucets made in Italy that were very good quality.
Grohe seems awful expensive for what you get, lots of plastic parts and thin brass escucion plates on their shower valves. Also as mentioned above, I once worked on a Grohe shower valve that had completely inacessible screens on the inlets which became clogged with galvy pipe debris, terrible design.
Newport brass does seem to be top quality, lots of machined, heavy brass parts.
Be especially aware of quality if you are getting polished brass, this is a troublesome finish if not top quality.
