Not exactly sure what you are asking, but here are your options: 1) (easiest) replace the parts using Moen parts. One exception is the tub spout, which can be replaced with another brand/style, etc, but first you need to know how it's connected and get something similar (slip-on with a nut underneath, or screw-on). Usually this is done by removing the existing one and matching the connection type. Tub spouts are attached in more than one way (slip-fit over copper, and a couple different screw-on variations). 2) (more costly) Replace the entire unit, guts and all, which typically means access behind the wall, sweating copper, etc. This is where you make sure to get something with the exact same configuration for all the existing holes, which can be a nuisance. Also, Moen guarantees for life, so you can call them and get a free cartridge if it's leaking, etc. As for the handles and trim plate, they usually clean up fairly well, but if you need to replace them, look for a "trim kit" or trim plate and be sure that the screw holes in the trim plate are in the same place as the one you are replacing. The trim kits bought at a plumbing supply have the screw holes in a different location from the trim plate you find at Home Depot, etc. Same goes for the handles, meaning that you need to take one off and take it with you to match the backside of the handle "stops" because they can differ. It has to work. Then again, if you say it doesnÂt, I believe you. But my first sentence was correct, in that, such an arrangement is made to be open at two places, the spout and the showerhead. Water naturally falls, so it will try first to exit the spout. When the diverter is actuated, and it cannot fall, it seeks the other option. This is a nice arrangement, because when the shower is shut OFF, it will drain the riser tube, so that you donÂt get a blast of chilly water next time. There are three reasons why this might not work. The first two involve the installation. If the shower was Âabandoned by an earlier user, it may have been capped-off at the top of the mixing valve. Similarly the valves are Âdirectional. It may be in upside down. But, often the problem is in the Âsmart valving that is used for anti-scald control. Since it is "anti-scald," these are made more cheaply by sensing too-hot water and stopping it, while the COLD still flows. Some valves shut down both sides. If the cartridges in these are installed upside down (handle 180° out of position) no water will flow. But I donÂt think it can be true for the shower-only. If you think the water should flow to the showerhead, it can be in the mixing valve itself. You can get a Moen repair kit almost everywhere. If you remove the cartridge, you may find that the seals have been sheared by sharp edges of the valve body, where the finely-machined bore meets the cast passages at an oblique angle. As this material accumulates, it can lodge in the small port that feeds the riser, eventually creating a packing capable of stopping the water from rising. Before installing a new kit, insert an emery board into the valve body and try to round off any sharp edges. If this is the problem, the port will need cleaning, too. You can probe that with a small wire (paper clip) or try blowing back an air blast thru the shower arm. Any clogging material will end up in the valve and must be washed out before reassembly. Then run the shower water with the head off for the same reason, before reinstalling it. Pinoke

I know you may have already handled your project but I thought I would post the steps involved here. It's an older version of the Moenique model. Pry out the circular chrome cover on the knob. Unscrew the center screw. Remove the knob and pull off the chrome tube cover with squared/keyed ridge. Unscrew the retaining screw located beneath the knob on the square chrome inset that is against the wall and inside the handle/soapdish fixture. Pry out the chrome inset. Underneath, you will find 4 screws that are holding the rest of the handle/soapdish/faucet fixture. To remove the cartridge: Pull out the retaining pin, it's a brass horseshoe shaped cotter at the top of the pipe. Now the cartridge can be removed. In my case, only the core came out and I had to drill out the shell of the cartridge. It takes a 1225 Moen cartridge. its an older version of the Moenique design.

If you installed everything right, didn't have any parts left over, and ordered the right cartridge and it's in the right position, it could be a few other reasons, broken washer, corrosion inside the diverter, faulty cartridge or faulty valve, etc, you can always call Moen customer support, and if nothing works call a local plumber.
