It could work but it does not have a special look.

I love ovals, but I don't see it working there. Mostly because I think you are creating two competing focal points in a small space.

If you want to have the clock and the cabinet, I think you should consider a round mirror to echo the face of the clock, or an arched-top mirror to echo the arched doorway.

I think I would be inclined to put a small bench in the space where you have the cabinet. Useful in an entry, and a longer, lower piece in contrast to the tall, narrow clock. An upholstered seat or cushion in a great print could bring some color and interest there, too.

I think I would like a rectangle mirror there better than the oval.

I think the mirror would work ok, but I would probably like a rectangle mirror above that chest. By the way, that chest is gorgeous! So is your clock! I love the floor, too! I would love to know your wall color?

Sorry homersmom, but it reminds me of a medicine cabinet I had back in the 80's. You have a gorgeous foyer, and IMO, it needs a much prettier mirror to do the rest of it justice. ;o)

I like it and think it would work quite well. Finish goes well with everything and I like how the shape kind of mimics the shape of the archways. I don't care for overly ornate mirrors and this one has just enough detail without being too fussy.

A mirror with a mirror glass frame would be pretty. This is one I picked for my foyer but they have them in all shapes and sizes, even nice round ones.

You have plenty of roundish elements in the space, I would go for the rectangle for variety.

Second the suggestion above for an upholstered bench. . . there is enough wood in the foyer and your clock is the star---lovely!

The problem with a bench is that if it's 18" deep, it could only be 24" wide to fit in that space, otherwise it would stick out into the traffic pattern to the kitchen and family room.

What about a tall wall mirror, or a trio of taller, narrow framed mirrors? That way you have no depth issues, and a mirror is always nice in an entry, but it is simple enough that it doesn't compete with the lovely clock.

I love the wall color, the clock, the chest and especially the dog. What a cutie. To my eye, the clock in the foreground has such presence that the chest in the background looks a little small for the space. I think I'd like to see something wider there.

Can you swap locations of the clock and chest? I'd love to see how they look that way. Beautiful pieces and a beautiful home!

Originally I had a chest where the clock is now, so I may end up moving it back to its original space (on the angled wall.) I just walked in the door so after I move it I'll post pics. I want to use the chest since I like having a little table lamp on in the foyer at night.

I moved the clock back to its original home. Even though I liked it on the other wall, it's going to stay here. I picked up an antique mirror today in my favorite antique shop, but the condition was marginal and the mirror needed to be replaced. I think my best bet is to just buy a new framed mirror and call it a day. I've got a couple in mind, but will have to mull it over for a day or two. I think a rug will help soften up the space a bit, too. Any other ideas are certainly welcome. Thanks!

A much better arrangement, imo. Your eye travels from the cabinet up and over to the clock, and then over to the open doorway and into the home. Just what you would want!

Although a mirror is always nice in the entry, I could also see a lovely painting there, to bring in some pattern and color.

If you go with the mirror, consider a pretty floral arrangement or decorative patterened bowl, perhaps a blue and white porcelain on a brass base.

What shape rug will be put in the space? Seems like you have a lot of different angles and corners there, at least in this view.

Yes, there are angles all over this house! I had a round rug in here over the winter, and a rectangular sisal-look rug placed on an angle during the summer. I'll toss the round one on the floor and take some pics tomorrow AM - stay tuned for more of this saga!

It looks really nice and I agree with you, I love a lamp in the entryway. Can we see a picture of the entire foyer? Do you have any mirrors from other rooms that you could try over the chest?

arapaho - I'll take some pics of the entire foyer in the morning. My pups are Homer (6 y.o. black lab) and Molly (4 y.o. lab mix.) The only mirror I have is the oval one. I have a couple of Audubon prints that might look nice in lieu of a mirror. We'll see...

I was going to suggest some botanicals over the chest. I guess I'm in the minority because I much preferred your gorgeous clock as the focus entering your home on the wall where you had it. To me, it doesn't look as important on the side wall.

Love the pups! It's nearly impossible to take pictures without them in it, isn't it? I know my 2 and my 2 cats are always somewhere in the pictures I take.:)

My thoughts exactly deeinohio. I don't claim to be an expert so was reticent to say that last night. The spot by the stair seems to be made for the clock. It fits perfectly.

Good morning - forgot to set my clock ahead! The wall color is BM Baby Turtle.

I liked the clock on the other wall, too. But I really want to use the chest with a lamp on it, and it just works better on the left. I'll probably go with the Audubon prints for the time being. I am going to Europe in a couple of weeks and may find a nice piece while there, we'll see. Thank you all for the compliments.

Love your clock! I have to say that I liked the clock on the other wall too. Looks to me that the clock, when placed in your first post, makes it the first thing you see entering your foyer if your entry door is where I think it is? However, I digress to the real experts here.

We have a Simon Willard tall case clock (old family piece), which is the star of our large foyer. When the clock came to us many years ago, I had the clock guy we hired to move it, place the clock first, and then worked the remainder of the foyer pieces around the space.

I'm choosing to look at it this way - when the front door opens (right to left) the first thing someone entering will see is the clock, so in a way it will be the focal point. That's how I'm justifying it anyway :) It may move again at some point - nothing in this house stays in the same space for very long!

I had used these Audubon prints elsewhere in the house at one time, so thought I'd use them for now. The rug is one that I had before changing color schemes, so it is temporary as well. It's a 6' round and I could probably use a 7'. 8' might be a tad large. This room has always been a little tough in terms of rugs, due to the angled wall. The lamp is one that I picked up yesterday in my quest for a wall mirror. The lighting store was having a 25% off sale - yippee! Here's the room as it looks TODAY. Who knows what it will look like a week from now :)

I think the Audubon prints work well. My only suggestion would be to hang them off center, a couple of inches to the right. Think of the lamp and the art as one composition. I like the lamp and right now it feels crowded.

The round rug is nice from this view, tho of course we can only see one part of the whole. I do think you could use one a bit larger, tho you might run into problems with it coming at an odd angle to the cabinet.

The angle of that wall makes it seem you could run right into the clock coming through the door. In fairness you should take a picture with the two vignettes switched. Would the cupboard fit to the right of where the clock is past the angle on the wall next door?

I really liked the clock on the wall in your first post. If you put the chest back over where you had it and did a mirror collage like posted a above, the reflection would somewhat distract from the angle in that area and help your eye move around a bit with the beautiful clock still remaining the star.

les - I'll have to play around with the prints a little. Thanks for the suggestion.

arcy - You'd have to take a running start to run into that clock - it's 11' from the door ;) It's my poor photography skills that make it seem closer. The chest wouldn't fit on the wall next to the angled one. Another rearrangement will have to wait until next weekend, but it's certainly not out of the question.

jterrilyn - I don't think I want to do a mirror collage - already have one in the sitting room off the foyer. Good idea, though.

I really like the new layout and the prints. I agree the lamp feels somewhat crowded but it's a great space. Like the round rug too.

arcy - I re-read your last post and I think you might be referring to the entry from the kitchen? If so, the clock actually leaves more room to navigate through that walkway than the chest did. I thought you meant it was too close to the front door.

Very pretty. I think the chest fits better there. I liked the clock there too, but overall this arrangement seems more balanced to me. I agree with les917 to nudge those prints a little to the right.

Like the new placement and prints instead of mirror is a good call! Agree prints should move to the right an inch or two.... lovely!

As a previous poster (chickadee2) mentioned, I think this arrangement seems more balanced because the height of the clock on the angled wall works to balance the height of the stairs. In the previous arrangement, all the height was to one side. I love the changes you've made.

Without making more holes in your wall, I think the prints will work where they are if you add a couple things on the top of the chest to the right side. I like the prints there a lot and they may serve you well until you find the right mirror if you still choose to do that.

I love the final look with the clock to the right and chest on the left. You inspired me to paint my foyer which I have wanted to do Forever. I really like BM Baby turtle and have been wanting it for my family room. What other colors do you have in your home that blend well? Do you have any gold/yellows?
