How to remove plastic cover from fridge

The installers did not do a very good job of removing the protective plastic from the refrigerator doors during installation. Any tips for easy removal? Just pulling isn't working. It tears off a giblet leaving a small piece behind to get to get a hold of.

I work for a big box retailer and have probably delivered 1000 refrgerators. Probably an under estimate. That damn plastic is the worst part of the job! Whoever came up with it needs to be taken out and shot. It’s a manufacturing defect, Some manufacturers have plastic that peels off with no effort at all, and some you can spend a half hour peeling it off one inch at a time. If one manufacturer can do it right, then they can all do it right. Frigidaire and Whirlpool and GE, I’m talking to you! You can take a sharp razor blade and steadily run it down the inside edge. You never get it all off, but you can get close and make it a lot less noticeable. The problem with that is, of course, some people don’t want a razor on their new fridge. At that point, you give up and tell them to invest in a pair of tweezers. If you want to complain, complain to the manufacturer. Your delivery people didn’t put that crap on there. It’s your fridge, so deal with it! The cheaper the fridge, the harder it is to get off. Complain to the manufacturer! Complain to the manufacturer! Complain to the manufacturer!

I hope someone has an answer for you, mine is the same way. I did remove the handles and managed to get that out but there are other spots that look terrible.

Hmmm, scpalmetto, we aren't getting any pearls of wisdom. I'm fortunate. There was none left under the handles. Mine is just along the edges, right at the gasket. I tried gently moving the gasket aside only to discover that the plastic is actually caught in the seam where the SS was attached to the fridge in the manufacturing process.

If you have a small screwdriver with a very thin blade (not just a standard size screwdriver) you could work the tip gently under one end of the clip and then use the screwdriver as a lever to pry the clip off.

Cheap plastic over nice tile, how to remove?

I have a famous and tedious answer that might or might not work....whenever I have to remove something like that I use a very high quality chisel and slide it over the surface. On a good quality tile, it will (if carefully done) slip under the contact cement and cut it from the base. It might or might not work, but I wanted to share that option. I've used this trick for grout, glues, etc., and so far, so good...and not ruined the surface but you have to remember to be careful to keep the blade flat on the surface you want, and slowly try to push it under without digging in.

Removing tape residue from inside of fridge

Usually that sort of tape residue is easily removable with vegetable oil. I use canola, but any clear oil is good. Apply it to the residue areas liberally, let it sit for 10 minutes, then gently wipe off with a soft cloth. The residue should soften and come off easily. You can follow up with soap or Windex to remove the oil.

Get a piece of plastic laminate (Formica) about 1" x 6". Snap off the end which will create a scraper sharp enough to remove the plastic, but soft enough not to scratch the stainless steel.

Thanks, T. I'll see if I can find some. Maybe HD will give me a sample. Do you think an old credit card would work? Might be easier to come by than Formica.

Give the credit card a shot, but tweezers can scratch stainless.

We just bought a new refrig also and have the same problem. I used a toothpick so I wouldn't scratch the stainless.

I recently replaced a 12 year old problematical fridge, which, to its dying day, had a piece of unremoveable blue plastic. However, my new fridge had its plastic removed by the delivery people and not one scrap remained stuck to the fridge.

I removed the plastic and now see spots all over the place, anyone have thoughts on how to remove, if at all possible?

I have the same problem. Bought a new Samsung black stainless frig. Be careful with this type finish it chips and the light color stainless shows through any scratch or chip.

Samsung has no repair for this problem.

We have the same problem and we have had three replacements with the same problems shipping wrap won’t come off. We are asking for new doors without the wrap

Just got a Whirlpool fridge today. After struggling to get the plastic from around handles, my husband got a wrench & loosened the doors. Removed plastic in about 10 minutes.
