I don't have the answer for you. I'd like to know too if there is a way to cut them off. The ready made ones are 6 inches too wide for my window. The length works. It just kills me to pay double for custom.

I recently shortened several sets in our new rooms, and those directions aren't right for the blinds I used. Mine had threads weaving the bamboo together rather than wires, and little wire 'loops' that directed the cords. What I did (that worked perfectly) was as follows: 1 - First, we hung the blinds, extended them to their full length, and marked where we wanted them to end with a piece of masking tape. 2 - On a large flat surface (I used a bed, covered by a sheet of cardboard), turn the blind over so you're working on the back side. Then, about an inch longer than the finished length, run a bead of hot glue across the threads to keep the blind from unravelling. Make sure you've got good coverage. Cut the extra blinds below the glue line. 3 - Find your desired end length and fold the bottom inch back up to make a hem. Use hot glue to glue up the hem, using 'chip clips' or clothes pins to hold the hem in place. If your blinds are very thin, you may have a better look with a hem rolled around a small dowel, but a simple fold works well for thicker bamboos. 4 - Now for the cords. When pulled up, the blinds folded in certain places by pulling the cords through little metal loops. The loops were spaced every 12" or so, then when raised, those loops stacked one over the other, forming the pleats. Fold your blind (using the loops as guides) to see how the pleats form and where your new lower edge hangs relative to the remaining loops. 5 - Remove a set of loops from your 'scrap' portion of blind, and re-position those loops near the new bottom so it hangs nicely. (If you're totally confused, try a spot 3-4" above the bottom edge -- that'll generally hang behind the other folds and you can always move the loops if your first guess is wrong.) 6 - Then rehang the blinds, raise and lower them, and shorten the pull-cords if needed.

I just put up some bamboo shades to add texture to a living room window and to hide the roller shade behind. I have a bamboo shade with a liner in a different room, and it's really annoying. The liner is fabric and the same manufacturer of the shade, but it always looks messy and misaligned. I also made a faux roman shade for my kitchen and just left the roller blind behind it. So I'm a fan of that option.

I would like to know also. I need to order a bamboo shade to fit a french door I have. I need 24 or 25 inches wide, but Home Depot and Lowes only carry 23 inch and only inside mount.
