Can you see your potager from space?
Comments (7)Yeah, mine are old, too. Guess we're stuck with close ups of our potagers. Oh, what will we do?! ; ) I love your potager, Diggity. It does look like you had a good year. When does your growing season end? We still have a few good months out here in So.Cal. I still have chilies, maters and squash coming on, apples and maybe some pluots if the birds don't eat them while we're on vacation next week. I tried artichokes and forgot to pick them so now they're blooming. Still, they are pretty when they bloom. : ) Oh, and I have honeydew! They are small but look like they'll be tasty. Can't hardly wait! I finally fixed up my potager pond and put a new "friend" in it to greet me each morning. Take a look if you get a chance. Her name is Ms. Lily Pad and she has some babies to keep her company. : ) Diana Here is a link that might be useful: Potager pond...See MoreCan you show me your stained knotty alder front doors, please?
Comments (24)olliesmom - thanks! I like the MW English Chestnut also, and we're using that to stain our wood floors. Since I wanted the doors to be darker, I used a custom mix of MW English Chestnut (1 part) and MW Dark Walnut (5 parts). To test the custom mix, I bought the small cans of each stain and a piece of knotty alder (cut into several sample pieces). Using a plastic spoon and paper cups, I made several stain mixes, starting with one part each and working my way up to the 5 parts of Dark Walnut to 1 part English Chestnut. Then I tried each mix out on the pieces of wood to see which I liked better. Once I found the right mix, we bought the larger quart sizes to stain the doors. After staining, we used several coats of a sealant (with UV protection) in a satin finish....See MoreCan I see your front door?
Comments (20)Igloo gorgeous doors! What kind of wood? Maybe they aren't cracked because of the thickness and kind of wood? I dunno. It's hard to believe they would so strongly warn against it and then here you are with doors that old, full exposure and no cracks! Maybe the doors that are made today are made differently and can't handle the elements?? Maybe what I should to is buy a reclaimed door from a salvage yard! I love the double set of door design. Very clever having the solid wood exterior that can be left open to reveal the half glass interior doors. LOVE IT!...See MoreCan I see your front door dressed for autumn
Comments (69)blanche65 - Thank you so much for the compliments on the doors. I bought them originally with some dried grasses already in them, stuck into some florist foam down in there. I've had them a year now and each season I've stuck in other types of things, like red berries at Christmas, yellow and white dried flowers in spring etc. This summer a bird actually built a nest in one so I didn't touch it! We watched as she sat on the 3 eggs, then the babies hatched and lived there on my front door until one day I was actually watching when they had flying lessons. Sooooo, a few weeks ago I took the nest out and had to remove a few of the dirtier twigs...lol. I just went to hobby lobby and bought a few more twigs and some gourds and pumpkins to stick in also. I think this summer I'll put something different up :-) I attach them to the door (which is fiberglass) with the 3M Command small wire hooks. They've lasted a year so far and still holding tight. The bottom point has a small piece of the Bluestik adhesive putty like teachers use to attach things to walls. That just keeps the breeze from knocking it crooked and keeps it hanging nice and straight....See Moreschicksal
