Supersteel/brushed steel pulldown faucet. Less fingerprints?

I believe that perhaps I have made the last somewhat major decision regarding the kitchen stuff (I'm sure many of you are thinking that I am very naive. Probably true).

DH has come to the light and sees the beauty of the Grohe K4, that it isn't too tall, and extends farther into the Stages 45 sink that other faucets. (Cardboard mockups were helpful in this exercise) "It's kind of like a piece of art," he stated, after mulling it over for a week.

So now, the question is to get the Starlight chrome, or is it worth the extra 100 bucks to get the Supersteel finish? This faucet will be handled and pulled down everyday, versus our current old chrome Moen that is just positioned over the sink. Does the pull down Chrome collect fingerprints and smudges? Does the Stainless hide them? I'm not worried about matchy matchy -- my pulls are satin nickel, the trim on the pendants (2 above the sink) are polished chrome, sink is Stainless.

So, does the steel hide the marks, and is the $100 bucks worth it? If you had it to do over, what would you do?

I personally love the stainless. It is so worth the extra $100 for the look and feel. Its a solid piece. I've seen that faucet and prefer the look of stainless over chrome. Chrome is beautiful as well, depends on your taste, but does leave more marks than stainless. I have the ladylux3, love it and use it in the same manner. I don't need to wipe it often.

Go for the stainless no need to second guess here.

I have brushes stainless (Kohler though, not Grohe) and it shows NO fingerprints at all, ever. I have had polished chrome in the past and was constantly wiping it to keep it looking all nice and shiny. Brushed stainless hardly even shows water spots! I love it....it is a VERY low maintenance finish.

I think you're absolutely right, monicakm, it must depend on the manufacturer because, as I said before, there is no consensus. So, the faucet I am thinking about is a Toto (also getting a Toto pedestal sink and toilet). Anyone have Toto faucets in polished chrome or brushed nickel who wants to chime in? Thanks! I needed to pick a faucet that had a handle that didn't tip back too far because I was worried about it hitting the backsplash or window overhang. I have a large sink and only 24" to work with. That's why I ended up going with this model. It is the Hamat Ergo. I bought mine from faucetdirect.com. Mine is chrome, the picture from Faucetdirect is stainless I think. Hi readyalready! Thanks for mentioning the Allegro E! I saw the Hansgrohe brand mentioned in one of the threads I posted and just went to their web site and saw the Allegro E model photo, which looks very similar to the Grohe Ladylux that I am considering. Do you have the Allegro E? If so, what do you think of how the sprayer works?

Thanks rococogurl, I hope I get a good price too! Trailgirl, I will let you know since I will be hunting - look for messages under "found EVE, yay!" Davidro, super great info on swapping out the handle, that's the piece that made it tough for my husband to love on the ONO (happy happy Hawaiian in that name) Katyde, thanks for that info, I hope to add a couple things and did not think that was a possibility but if I can add to the faucet I would like to truly consider it. MarcyDC and Pixley: I just told him that group consensus is brushed nickel and stainless go together well... Thanks all! If I can swing it I will. I love the support of the GW community!!! I have a stainless Delta Allora and it always looks clean. No fingerprints.

Way back when...I was really leaning towards the chrome finish, you know me--wanted the "sparkle". Then I went to the showroom. I touched the chrome one--it left my fingerprints. At that moment I realized there was no way I wanted to be obsessed with wiping down the faucet constantly. I ended up with a Danze stainless faucet (not a Grohe-long story). It shows no fingerprints. I think with Grohe there is Real Steel and Super Steel--I doubt one shows fingerprints more than the other, it's just the overall color is slightly different. One is stainless over stainless, the other is stainless over brass. Can't remember which is which.

Go down to a showroom, and actually touch them and see for yourself what you think.

We have a different brand in the brushed and it leaves no fingerprints. I actually have to remind myself to wipe it down because it always looks good.

Make sure you see it in person though. Ours has a very different colour than our stainless sink - sort of a goldy tinge to it.

We have the Grohe LadyLux Cafe in steel (there was only one steel option when we got ours). Besides the fingerprint factor, we liked the fact that it was steel through and through (except the spray head, which is silvery-colored plastic). If the body of the faucet is ever nicked or scratched, it is steel underneath.
