Make sure the cfm is accurate. What we found looking at eBay range hoods is many were rated at 700 to 1000 cfm (don't remember the number might have been 870 for the most popular one quoted). When I enquired about the cfm to see if that was some peak reading or for further information what the typical response was either no response or an email back say that is what they were being told by their supplier. When I asked if there were any other specs quoted such as "wind power" or some such which was popular in many of the ads the rating was quoted as some number of m3/min. When I went to a conversion site online I found many of these ratings were actually putting the true cfm at 400 to 500 cfm instead of the higher cfms being quoted. When I emailed purchasers who gave glowing feedback I found the great majority had only looked in the box and had not installed the vent as they were in process on the kitchen. The others had them installed and felt they worked good, but had no way of telling if they were actually pulling the cfm advertised. Comment on stainless above is another to look at. Very true. Find out what grade and then look it up online to see if it is one that is good or one that will give you issues later. One thing we found with our commerical stainless is that magnets will not stick to it. Lower grades will. Also, see if the vent has a flexible duct line for use with it. If it does, everything I read at least, says that the flexible line will significantly reduce the actual pulling power of the vent. Anyone step in here if I'm remembering that wrong. Lastly, I'm not a dealer of any kind so have no preference on vents etc. Just a joe shmo that was in the same boat and could not believe the price of vents. There is no way the materials etc. even if the unit had the rare USA labor should be that high in my estimation. Maybe silly, but they seemed a huge profit area for suppliers. We ended up shopping and shopping until we found a clearance unit for a much more reasonable price. Have a look in your town to see if there are any stores that do this. Anyway, best of luck with it and really do your research if you go with an eBay one. Also, maybe try looking up the name of the manufacturer on google.co.uk and see if it is a euro one. Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion deeinohio, but i had the problem before when I was trying to upload another photo that didn't have the word bat in it. Well, it was battery, but I don't think that's the case. It has been suggested over on the eBay board that I change my browser from IE to Mozilla Firefox. I am scared to do that, although people swear by it, and it seems to help those that have had the upload problem. I just hate to change the whole look of my browser page. I've become so use to it and it's easy to move around. When the new upgrade for IE came, I upgraded, but hated the new format, so I went back to the older version. perhaps that could be the problem. I keep getting messages from YouTube and other sites that I need to upgrade my browser. I'll see tomorrow. Going to bed!

Flyleft, my thinking is that Muranos (even bland ones) go for such $$$$$, that even though seasoned ebayers would never bid on a zero feedback seller, I could see a couple of newbies bidding those lamps up to $1k and then thinking they got the deal of the century. It's just funny because usually the scams involve electronics. These scammers have impeccable taste! The Swank owners bid it up extremely high quickly so even the most naive ebayer with the deepest pockets won't bid. And I think those lamps are about $6k at Swank, so it truly would be a much better deal to go there :-) I don't own any Murano, but I am still obsessed. I have three big dogs and am terrified of owning such fragile beauty, so I admire from afar. moonkat, all the lamps on Swank are rebuilt, it just means the electric part, so they conform to current standards. The Italy sticker only refers to the glass. And now I am embarrassed that I know so much about Swank and their lamps. I can only compare it to a line by Toulouse-Lautrec from Moulin Rouge: "But I know what love is, only because I long for it with every fiber of my being." Joanna

If you are new to ebay as your students will be, here are a few things I would tell them - unless they desperately want to buy an item with the Buy It Now feature, they are best to watch the item and bid on it in the last few minutes so they don't get into a bidding war with someone. Be sure to verify what the shipping is before bidding, what form of payment the seller accepts (your students may need to open a Paypal account) and what are the stipulations for shipping fees - is it straight shipping as given in the postal guidelines or is it shipping and handling, in which case the seller can basically charge whatever they like. There are a number of sellers these days that sell the item for 99 cents but charge a very large amount for shipping so they make their money that way. What is the return policy if the item isn't as described, arrives broken or never shows up at all. I would also explain feedback and that it is best to not give negative feedback unless no resolution can be reached with the seller. If you are going to teach them how to sell, show them how to look up the item in completed listings first - ebay is not like it was years ago and so much stuff sells for only a couple of dollars despite our thinking it might be very collectible. Selling an item can be a time consuming process and if it's only going to fetch a dollar or two, they may feel it's not worth the effort. If you do decide to teach them the selling part, I can give you lots of tips on what they need to know, feel free to contact me if you'd like my 4 cents worth of ebay expertise. Suzan J
