New here---sharing travel photos

I just got a new Nikon as an early Christmas present. I'm looking forward to learning how to use it better and hope to post some photos...

I love to travel--Here's some from my point-and-shoot:

Great pics, I love the Bohemian village. Didn't know you could go up in the Pisa tower, thought it was a little unsteady!

Thanks Shirley & Nancy. : ) I didn't notice the "smoke cloud" until after I got home and loaded the pics into my computer. Nancy, the entire exterior of our house will be brick, w/ possibly some stonework here and there. Not sure yet. We'll make it up as we go. But mainly brick (same as chimney). We bricked our current home back when we were remodeling it and DH did some "fancy" stuff....we've got several brick arches, quoined corners, etc. We aren't going to be doing much of that on the new house. I'm going for a simple, rustic look. The front of the house will have a porch or deck all the way across.....it's kind of hard to explain. I think we will be using a material such as Trex to build it. We are looking for no maintenance for the entire exterior and don't want to have to paint, stain, etc. anything. I've picked all of our colors to match very closely, but to have slight differences. Like the shingles, for example. They are overall only about 1 or 2 shades darker than the brick, but have mixed colors in them. One of the colors matches the brick perfectly. Well, i've got to get ready to head over there....we started working on installing a gate at the end of our driveway last night which involved much more than you would think. DH is building large soil berms (planting beds!!!!) along the road to keep anyone from driving in. In the midst of all of this, he dug up a buried telephone line and tore it in half. You can only imagine how furious he is. This was never marked by the utility company when we first started our building process and it should have been. So now we are at a stand-still until someone decides to come out and look at it today. I thought it would have affected neighbors (no phone service?), but nobody called to report it yet (maybe because they don't have a working phone??? LOL). We're hoping it's an old line, or maybe an unused one. It never ends....... HUGS, ~Dawn (mamabirrd) PS: No baby yet! C'mon Talon!! : ) I am soooooo sore and am barely able to waddle along.

You really lucked out Paul. Nice stuff! Those can't be current pics of your yard, are they? I thought you lived in WA or OR and had some frost by now. So, I'm juust a tad jealous if you can see that now! You know the one draw back with my elph camera is I frequently get the icon telling me my camera is shaking. Even if holding it very still. The high wind causes problems with focusing but they might make a similar model with some type of stabilizing feature to minimize this. I take many out of focus pics. The 2 below are examples as they were taken on horseback and the first with 12 X magnification as I was far away. Marea, Since you asked for a horse pic I went out in 39 degree weather for the first ride in a while. Shiloh was too full of energy and naughty. Here is the corn harvest here. Don't be fooled by the small size of these blue wagons. They are really big- 3 will fill a semi truck full of corn. and here if my hubby having the time of his life! If he wasn't so tired he might smile more. The combine is quite large also if you are standing up next to it. So- anyway- this should counts as a horse picture! BTW Marea, The lily garden idea with semps sounds groovy! You are the semp queen! I just found a photo/ art web place called redbubble.com. Some lovely and some weird art there. A warm bubble bath sounds dreamy right about now... Karen

Hi everyone! Don't know what happened to my last version of this posting. I had it all written turned around and it was gone :(. Well my brugs are here at home. The very sweet woman who gave this to me and her equally nice husband who dug up and put into my truck each one of these trees made me feel warm and welcomed. Kristi, the woman who gave this to me even brought out toys for my kids so they wouldn't get bored. Not hand me downs - which are prefectly good in my book too - but new, in the box toys she keeps around for just this kind of event. When greeting with this kind of generosity, a simple thanks does not seem enough but she didn't want anything in return. What I brought home were trees taller than me, taller than the inside of my greenhouse. Well they've been well trimmed now and I have cuttings ready to go. Here's what I have to share: Rosamond Versi Peach - limited amount Mayan Magic Maya Arlene's pink Beauty Golden Lady - nice double - but be warned it has a virus. The virus does not spread easily but you have to clean your pruners before you go near another brug. It's lived side by side with the other brugs with no ill effects and grows nicely anyways. I just want you to be warned. Unnamed seedlings of her own crosses. I didn't get butterfly or the big Creamsickle :(. Someone else beat me to it. I can't really complain too loud because the person who got it was a friend who has given me sooooo many plants. Jaye - what kind of truck did you get? DH loves trucks. We've had quite a few. For anyone who wants one post it here or email me with which ones you want. Canna - sorry to hear about your kitty! I had that happen to one once. She survived fine but what a fright! I shudder to think of the pain. MaryS - Can I move in with you??????? That lake looks so peaceful. MaryB - Thanks! Dawn - Did you get my email? Please tell me that you've forgiven my rash comment :( Will more brug cuttings help?????? Hmmm just what I needed - Another plant to collect! Anyone ever had bursitis - just got it in the shoulder. I can make a guess. My grandfather sold insurance on the road, at same time there were others selling pots & pans & other items.Reason he sold on the road as not enough people in small town he lived in. Lot of the towns didn't have stores or even a school or library. Kids would go to a country school between towns. As a teen I went with a friend & took a load of books to a small town for the folks there to read, imagine they got passed on to next town. GF was traveling shortly after start of 1900's. Can't see inside of your cabinet but imagine books were lined up on the shelves so customers could see the titles & check them out & then person would come back through in couple of weeks & returns were made & new books checked out. Don't know how the person would make a living doing loaning out of books tho. Maybe hired by the county. Also traveling salesmen often spent the night in peoples barns & lady of house would give him breakfast.They usually carried bread & some kind of dried meat along. Imagine library guy did same things depending on how he was traveling. Horse with small cart was popular. I have pic of dad standing by his dad's

Nice photos- I like the village and how the roofs are mostly all the same color. It gives a sense of community.

Oh, thank you to everyone! It's been fun seeing others' pictures on here too, and you all seem so laid-back and polite (compared to other forums around here) :)

Minrose, my husband bought me the D300!! I'm so excited! We took it out to a soccer field and threw the dog the ball, and tried to get some action shots of him for practice. I think we're going to be glued to that manual for awhile until all those settings become second nature.

Ron, I'm way north, near Grapevine, near DFW airport. I can see the planes at night taking off and landing.

Bigack, they just started allowing people back up on the tower in the last few years. Somehow they reinforced it and made it safe.

I'm at work at a dental office and it's slow because it's before Christmas.... so I have time to post! :)

This is the leaning tower of Pisa. It's actually a bell tower for a church, and the church and baptistry are beside it.

This was an interesting story. This is me with the Italian security guy (and that's not my underwear showing! That's a money belt so no one can pickpocket me!) on top of the tower.

Those girls around us were mentally challenged and from Britian. Their teachers climbed the tower with them and had them on "leashes." The guard, who spoke no English, took the "leash" from the teacher and led the girl to the bell in the background, and told her something about it in Italian. The girl just stared at him blankly because she did not understand his language. Finally he just leaned over and kissed her forehead sweetly. I thought he was such a kind-soul!

The girl looked stunned and the teacher laughingly exclaimed that she "just had her first Italian kiss!"

All of us were laughing together on top of the tower despite the language barrier. The guard was everything that you hear the stereotypical Italian to be---warm, loving life, and so friendly. I'll never forget him. ;)

This is the pic of the Roman Colliseum. This whole structure used to be covered with marble. The people in the pic are at the stage level, and all the network at the bottom-most layer are the hallways and channels and "elevators" that were beneath the stage in which animals were hoisted up for gladiator events, etc. Amazing this was all BC.

Fantastic photos, texashottie.
My daughter and her husband lived in Italy for three years while he was in the Air Force. My wife and I had the opportunity to visit them for a couple weeks in the fall of '06. Isn't it just a fantastic place to explore? They were just an hour away from Venice by train. What a life! I'll have to do some digging and find some pics.

Ron, I would love to see your pics!! That's a pretty incredible opportunity for your daughter--and for you and your wife to visit! I hope you post yours at some point. :)

Nice photos!

It's hard to see if the cable that is running from the Leaning Tower, is the one that is holding it in place or if it is a different type of cable.

I know they used to have it wired to keep it from leaning further while they tried to stabilize it.

I think they stabilized the tower with some kind of mud jacking?

Have you traveled Switzerland yet?.. my native country.

Konrad, I would love to go to your native country! You currently live in my husband's native province. :) Do you have pics to share of Switzerland?
