Many birch trees can be quite showy at night, when the moonlight hits their white bark. I also like aspen because of the noise from the leaves in the wind. It is more noticeable at night when other stuff is silent. No real summer night without that sound.

Thanks for showing your pics Johnny D, I have never seen a Weberbauerocereus flower before... I almost bought a plant earlier this year, but passed it up in favour of something else that I wanted... now I know what I'll be missing. CP

Hey there Civil Enger TN -- I'm a EE in MD. Live near the water. I'm fairly sure you are hearing a water bird (not a frog.) Here they are grey, long beak, long skinny legs, body around 14" or so and wingspan probably twice that. Agree with the start-up whistle but the croaking is gross at times and resembles a large animal gagging I think. Have not looked up the type bird but I'm betting that is what you are hearing.

They don't mind. They are a subject of art for my daughter and my son just likes the ones he deems as cool. He is more fond of my huernia and stapeliads because of the ick factor, lol.
