Just an idea: Could you use a photo wallpaper or very large poster that would appeal to both types of exercise, like a winding mountain or beach path or a nice land/beachscape?

Im assumingg you plan at least one wall of mirrors? That's a must.
What about flooring? There are some great choices out there, many colorful. Do you have windows?

Red and orange are a no, if you will use itr for yoga.

Ours is blue and white with a few orange accents, plus the black of the eliptical and hand weights.

I have a pale sunny yellow, BM Man on the Moon.

Mtn- yes one wall will be mirrors with a barre. 2 windows. A nook that will house hamper. cubby with towels and a water cooler (thinking this could also be darker accent color). Currently the floor is a bunch of carpet tiles... Hve investigated cork marmoleum and the typical gym floors... Not sure which route I will go.

Jterri- what color blue did you choose?

My walls are an off white, the curtains are a blue bluish/teal and the accents are orange and orange-ish coral. Ours is a small work-out room. First it was just mine but I eventually got my boys when teens interested by introducing a few guy workout tapes using hand weights and that graduated into them getting gismos that hung off the back of the door as well as a graduation to advanced workout tapes that include ball workouts, kickboxing and all sorts. I encouraged them to mix it up. I have over 200 exercise tapes but most of mine are Pilates. Now I need to get my bu!! back in there!

Yellow and lavender. I have seen that combo in several yoga studios.

Eleena- I like the yellow lavender or soft green lavender combos. But as the only female in the house, the lavender will most certainly be nixed. My men are not open to softer colors.

I find it difficult to decorate because even when I am doing intensive workouts using bosu, free weights or cardio I like the calming colors which I truly appreciate when doing yoga, But the "men" want strong energetic colors that I associate with adrenaline pumping-- bold red, deep bright orange... they claim it helps them train harder.

I'm afraid there is no medium here-- and we all need to feel inspired to go in there!! I appreciate every suggestion!

Tell them they can WEAR red and orange. Whilst your green palette isnt deleterious to their workout, their loud palette may be deleterious to yours.

And, of course, it's calming, too :)

We used SW Cherish Cream for our gym. It's not a cream really; it has warm tones and in some lights looks a bit like a very light yellow, in others sort of peachy-light orange, and otherwise a very warm tan. We really like it. We have a soft sagey green in he next room.

I second Blue, then. In addition to what nosoccermom said, it is also a color conducive to deep thinking and calm.

I actually tried to find the research on physical performance and color via google scholar and couldn't find it; however, I found the reference to weightlifting on several sites, including one from a college class in psychology and color choice on work performance. Still, I think unless you go cream, blue would be a great compromise.

I think the lesson Ive learned is as a former futbol player never marry the football player and raise a basketball player. Just kidding.

Well, I'd say navy is too dark and the soothing colors like Aloe or Healing Moments are not 'performance-enhancing enough' :)
My son, an elite athlete in endurance sports (haha), had/has bedrooms in SW Blue Plate (quite bright in a very bright, south-facing room) and BM Lucerne.
