Your location (PNW), your location (indoors) and the mid-winter season all ensure that the light bank will be the primary illumination for months to come. The good news is an 8-tube bank is better than adequate. Run-time should be at least what keeps the plants healthy (~12hr) up to possibly 16hr especially if there are Catts too that also need light. Since tubes are hardly too much light for the catts it is difficult to recommend giving less to the paph, I would just throw them all in under the same light. It won't be the same everywhere under the tubes anyway, closer to the center will be brighter and it will dim towards the ends. You can move plants around so no one plant sits forever under the tube ends (catts) or not but when a large group of identical plants are grown under tubes and are not moved around it is clear after time that those in the center grow faster and better than those at the ends. That is definitely Paper-Mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera). This is not a plant to be trifled with. The reason that you see these growing in a row down a fence, or in thicket-like clumps, or as I know them well - as inextinguishable stands along railway corridors where they withstand whatever chemical assault the railroad can fire at them - is that this species is a suckering/colonizing plant, regenerating from any root system it has. It is quite resistant to chemical control, and doesn't seemed fazed by being cut down or mown off. I know this plant from my early youth, where there was a plant on the property my parents bought and moved us to in 1967. Despite being cut to the ground repeatedly, mown off, sprayed with herbicides, incredibly cold winters to -25F, ridiculously dry/droughty summers with shallow to bedrock soils...this plant persists at that same location lo these 45 years later, and with suckering shoots occurring a hundred feet away! This is a dioecious species to boot, meaning that only plants with female flowers will produce fruit, and male plants won't produce fruit/seed but can continue to vegetatively reproduce via root suckering and colonizing behavior. I would do everything I could to eliminate this plant anywhere within the sphere of where I would want to garden. Do not believe that this is an innocent or innocuous neighbor.

Punk...Just imagine all the trouble we would get into if I moved closer! I don't think we'd get Anything done - except cause trouble!! lol I'm looking forward to seeing what you paint...it's been awhile since you've done that and I always enjoy what you do. I know your schedule has become so hectic for quite awhile, that painting is probably a 'wind down' and mental break to get back on track. I know when I'm at my busiest, I come on here for my 'mental' break. It helps me from getting too overwhelmed. Then, I go back and tackel another job. My DGSon convinced DH to do a different layout this year on his village. They are having way too much fun with it..but that's good, just as long as everything is put away in time for me to clean for Thurs and the party. I'm with you on 'The More the Merrier'..I love having a full house for the holidays. It's just a shame that everyone lives so far away that those family get togethers are now few and far between. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving... jane

Does somebody now remember "In Flanders field the poppies blow...."? Too many good Churchill quotes to pick one out.
