Here is the final product. It's a good snuggle quilt for a tall person, 62x90. I used the Van Gogh panto because I thought the pattern looked a little like ocean froth, keeping with the Storm at Sea theme. The binding is a greyish, brownish plum color that is very neutral, but not black. I hope I can find more of it to have at hand.

the door frame is absurdly skimpy Not that will--or am trying to--convert anybody, but telescopic frames that consist of only a jamb, with no casing is a very difficult and expensive detail to achieve. Why? Because there is nothing to cover up an irregular joint. Anybody can snap off an edge in drywall that leaves a half-to-one inch gap between itself and the window jamb proper and then cover it with a wide piece of decorative casing. That's why you see decorative casing around every door and window no matter how cheap the house is. You can bang out basic mitered casings around a door or window to cover the rough edge of drywall in a matter of minutes per window or door. Compared to this: there is no concealing any imperfection here. There is a perfect joint of wall material, either drywall or plaster to the jambs of the doors and windows The joint is exposed for all to see and it has to be without flaw. This is the most expensive way to finish something like this. Actually I am a bit biased about this because it's the detail around the windows in my house. Its painted to match the wall so you can't see it here you can see it a little bit These doors have wood jambs too. And the hinged doors have a flush jamb So you may not like a detail like this (someone said it looked like "I ran out of money for trim", but please at least understand what it is you are looking at. It's a detail that probably cost 5x the conventional trim per door and window than in your house. (not saying that as a brag, just a reflection of how long it takes to do something that looks like "nothing" compared to traditional casings).

Opening faucets in correct sequence normally siphons majority of water out. From standpoint of cost I would suggest a 12 volt pump for emergency tire inflation plus a portable air tank sold for same purpose. Fill tank at car then use tank to blow lines out. Even a bicycle pump can be used to fill portable tank.

yes, you'd have to get a 120-200 grit paper, sand off all of the glossy finish. dust off all residue. Then go over it once more w/a fine (350 sandpaper) grit paper, wipe w/mineral spirits. with all this dust and finishes, you may want to remove the door and do this in a garage. when it's all prepped, use an oil based primer (if you plan on painting the wood a darker color, have the primer tinted to your paint color (or one shade lighter). I like Zinsser. spend more and get the spray can. this will need to be used outside unless you want to completely tape off and plastic everything else in your room. When the primer has dried, take a very find sand paper and lightly go over the primer to knock down any heavier spots or brush marks. remove all dust with a dry brush or vacuum, and wipe w/damp rag. Now you can paint. Make sure to use a paint for wood trim, not drywall. I like BM Advance for wood. any other type of hybrid paint (looks like an oil finish but cleans up w/water) is good.
