Good thinking, if you have enough pixels to do that. Also could lighten it a bit more and bring up the contrast. Cute little one!

Good try!...baby's head would look better if not cut, also when cropping,.. one should not crop it too close.

Since it's cut in the original, I would try cropping it way down. Like this.

I agree with the distractions that should be cropped out, also Joan's suggestion to up the contrast more. It appears you shot in landscape mode. When I am just shooting one person, I usually turn the camera to portrait mode, works better. She's an adorable little girl. Hope you don't mind that I played a little with the colored version. Please don't ask me what all I did, quite a bit, mainly adjusted the levels first then tweaked it some more. It did bring out some noise; I don't have any noise removal software.
