choosing new countertops - granite and staining concerns

I just had cherry cabinets installed and now I need to get the counter tops. I was going to go with a high def Wilson Art laminate, but found a great deal with granite offered by a fabricator who installs for kitchen design stores. He is half the price if I go directly through him. We have gone to look at the slabs and we were all set until I started seeing that the granite offered by Home Depot and various kitchen stores were advertising lifetime stain resistance. Our fabricator would put on a sealant we would have to reseal every six months. Should I be concerned about this? Going with the retail stores is out of our budget. We were going to go Wilson Art HD until this fabricator gave us such a great price. I am just leery of a lot of maintenance and possible staining. I would appreciate any opinions.
