My sofas are here!

They just delivered my sofas (haven't even cut the tags off), so I had to post pictures since y'all know the struggle I went through deciding on a color. I'm very happy with the brown. It looks like you can see a weird space under the cushions in the picture, but you can't see that in person.

{{!gwi}}

I've still been looking for pictures for above the sofa and wanted to get your opinions on these. Each picture is 18 1/2W x 26 1/2T, so it would cover the whole area behind the sofa.

{{!gwi}}

I also found these. There's only four, so I could put sconces are something else to either side.

{{!gwi}}

I'm not sure if I'll keep the pillows that came with the sof or get something else. Maybe something like this:

Looks like your furbaby gives his/her approval! I *love* that last pillow you posted! Enjoy your gorgeous new sofas!

Woot, woot! I've been thinking about this on and off lately wondering when they were going to arrive. They really look nice. I like that the brown give some contrast to your walls.

I like both sets of pics and the pillow. You could maybe keep some of the ones that came with it and add the frechy one.

marti, I have seats for 5 in the room now and can bring in extra chairs from the kitchen as needed. The table has a leaf. We aren't big-dinner-party types so usually the biggest number of people at our table is 6. (That's all we had room for when we had the traditional dining table and chairs.) When we have more than that, we do an informal buffet and people eat scattered around the kitchen (which has kitchen table plus island and stools) and dining room. I know it wouldn't work for everyone but for us, this is a much better use of the dining room space that sat empty 90% of the time.

I like the blue in the room better than the browns in the last edition of pictures. The blue cleans it up a bit more. Both chairs are pretty colors. Could you add some navy in addition to the more muted colors that you like. Or maybe a very light soft blue/turquoise grey. The TV images are adding color to the room that may be distracting my evaluation, lol.

You could get a matching recliner to make it easy. Sectionals have so much of one fabric that I think it's nice to create interest with other fabric on other pieces. If it worked with all other existing colors in the room (i.e. walls, rug, etc.), and if you were inclined to go with a recliner like the linen-colored one or another one, you could visually tie the recliner to the sofa by including a couple pillows to the sofa that include both colors.

I have that pillow! Actually I have two. Love them.

I like the monochromatic thing you'd have going on with either set of prints. I prefer the set of 6.

They're just beautiful! Ya done good!

I love the shape of the back, and I think the color will be very forgiving. I also love the last pillow you showed and think they'd look great with any of the pillows you already have there.

    Isn't new furniture day fun????

I like the set of six also. They are similar to 8 vintage photographs I bought at a local antique store. I enjoy looking at the details. Mine are in a lower level hallway, across from bookshelves.

Looks forward to seeing your room come together.

Ooooh, where did you get the pillow??? Love the sofas and like the first set of wall pics better than the 2nd.

I see someone has already found a comfy spot :-)

    Those are beautiful.

Beautiful sofas. So glad you like them. I am enjoying watching your room come together. I like a set of 6 pictures best.

Love the sofas and the set of 6 prints.

With the wall color/sofa/carpet IMHO either of those prints would just "blend" into the room. If you want that look - then IMHO you are on the right track.
I think I would go with something w/color or maybe a piece of iron work. I really do not know much about decorating, but I do like alittle touch of color here and there.
I really like the shape/color of your sofas ! Did you get them on-line or a local furniture store?

Love your new sofas. Great color choice, goes well with your wall color. I think the places where you can see under the cushions will disappear once you have a chance to break in the sofa cushions a bit, and/or they settle down. Looks like somebody has started on that particular task. lol Adorable pup.

Being a fan of framed architectural drawings, I really like the pics you've found for above the sofa. Either grouping would be great, my choice would be the set that has the best matting.

    Very nice!

The sofas are really really nice - I like the curve of the back, the arms, the legs and the colour.

rafor - The pillow came from Pottery Barn.

jeannie01 - The sofas came from Bassett Furniture. The lightest pillows on my sofa is the standard color the sofa comes in, but I was worried about it showing dirt. It's really pretty in that color though.

I've been thinking about buying Pottery Barn's Peyton drapes in the French Ivory, but I found some at Bed, Bath and Beyond today that I think will work and they're alot cheaper. I've never used the rings and drapery hooks, but I love the look and want to use that in here. I noticed the Peyton curtains say you can hang the curtains with the pole pocket or use rings? Do you think the PB ones are made a certain way in order for you to use the rings or could I do that with any curtains?

Love that second set of prints, and the mat color is perfect. As for the curtains, and I am speaking as a person who has too many curtain rings, I like the simplicity of the pole going thru the pocket. It looks calm and understated and lovely.

Love your new sofa's. They are really pretty. Love that pillow too. Pup matches perfect.

There's nothing special about the Pottery Barn curtains that lets you use them with rings. I have the PB Cameron drapes. They are just regular pole top. I used rings with clips and just clipped onto top of curtain. Love the look.

Beautiful sofas! I remember your agony over the color. I really like the color you got. Perfect.

sueb20 - Do you have the pillows on your sofa or somewhere else? Is there any way you can post some pictures, so I can see how big they look?

Your sofas are beautifully shaped...even the side profile is so designer. I knew the minute I looked at them you were going to say Basset. I have had a lazy boy tight backed sofa for 15 yrs and it has held up beautifully. I am leaning toward replacing them with another tight backed (if I can find one). They hold up great with kids as not pillows to smash down on the back side and just generally hold their shape well. your right about the pillow color - very light. Yours doesnt even look brown but more of a caffe color or something. I do like the prints but sorry to say I think you need a pop of color to liven the wall up. Maybe silver sage or that bluish family and then some pillows to tie it together. The accent color is endless that you could use with that sofa.

    Lucky you!

Rolled arm couches are my favorite style and I love the lines of yours. The darker color is a good contrast with your wall color. I like the 6 pictures.

Love the last pillow too. These are similar and are on clearance at RH.

I love your new couch and loveseat! The color is wonderful in the room, and the texture is evident.

I know the pillows came with the pieces, but honestly, I think they are too big - they hide the wonderful back curve of the pieces. I would get something just a bit smaller that doesn't hid the sculptural quality of the couch and loveseat, and that doesn't seem so much like a barrier to sitting down.

I think the art you have chosen is nice, but the first set seem more grey toned than the second ones, which feel a bit warmer like your room. I am just not sure if you don't want to consider something a little less formal - the room is heading in a very formal/traditional direction now. I would rather see something less formal and a bit more fun, like you!

Blondie2007's comment about perhaps some touches of color is to be considered, I think. But rather than a lighter blue, I would love to see some touches of a rich navy in the space - I think it would be lovely. Simple pillows are easy to make with just a yard or two of fabric - don't limit yourself to what you can buy.

The other pillow you posted is great, but perhaps a bit big?

The first thing I would do, tho, is get a new lamp for the end table. It will make a huge difference, imo, in making the seating feel connected and cutting down on the bare wall feel.

Now, grab a cup of coffee and sit down and enjoy your lovely new furniture.

I have the first set of prints in my DR. Between the 2 options, I like the second set better for your room.

msrose congrats on the new sofas, they are very pretty.

Instead of not using the original pillows at all, have you considered pillow covers? Pottery Barn has a cover in the same print you've pictured above and it's sized to fit the pillows you already have.

I prefer covers because they can be swapped out to change things up once in a while, they're washable and the covers give the pillows a more lived in look. The bonus is they're on sale right now for half the price of the pillows.

Beautiful sofas. I like the set of 4 pics the best unless you want to bring in alot more gray. I think you need more accent color. I would consider using an area rug to ancher the space as well as bring in color. I think the drapes should be a color as well. I think good color options would be black, navy, or red. That red in your foyer would be perfect. Also I think your lamp needs to be bigger and maybe even use a black lamp shade. Great choice on the sofas!

Okay, very un-staged photo here! Just took it this morning with all our usual messes around. You can see the pillows -- they're fairly large. Nice and squooshy, the way I like them!

Wow! Those sofas are beautiful. I haven't read the posts, but I prefer the second set of prints for your room. Will there be an accent color or colors?

blondie - My previous sofa was a lazy boy, but it had the regular cusions on the back and they were so squished down. I think that's why the tight back appealed to me so much.

les - I had the same thoughts about the pillows being to big. In fact, I ended up taking all the pillows off my last sofa because I felt like they got in the way. I was kind of thinking about having just one in each corner. The thing is, I usually sit in the corner on the left, so having a pillow there still gets in the way. I'm kind of thinking of adding a shabby chic touch to the room. Any suggestions on art work that would give me that feel or do you think that would go against the style of my sofa? I thought of putting a lantern similar to this on the coffee table:

I don't use the lamp at all that's on the end table. Do you think I should get another one just for looks or get rid of it altogether?

charley - Can you please post a photo of the pictures in your dining room? Did you get them from BB&B?

lukkiirish - That's so funny. I was laying in bed this morning wondering if the covers were the same size as the pillows I have. The pillows that came with the sofa have a zipper on it, so I'm guessing I could easily swap out the covers.

sueb20 - Thank you so much!

kitchendetective - I've had a hard time commiting to an accent color. I'd like to add lots of white to the room now. I am going for more of a monochromatic feel, but I can always add pops of color later if I decide it's missing something.

Pottery barn also has this pillow, which is 18", but I don't know if 2" would really make it look any smaller:

    love your new sofas!
i would think that the PB throw pillows are abit thinner/squishier than the sofa pillows which look almost as firm as cushions... maybe a combo of both the 20" and 18" pillows and only keep a couple of the ones that came with the sofas...

wow, those sofas are beautiful. I adore the shape and the color is perfect!

Believe it or not, the two inches matters and you can really tell the difference in size.

I bought some covers for our pillows, the 20 inch size has zippers the 18 inch has fabric covered buttons. They no longer have the 20 inch I got but here are the 18 inch. Also please note, the price of the covers that match your pillows are on clearance (19.99) which means they most likely won't be available for very long should you decide to go that route.

If they're on clearance, that also means I couldn't return them if I don't like them for some reason. That makes me nervous.

This is the area of my house that I usually don't show you, but I have a question about the curtains. The top of the windows are approximately 91" from the floor and the space inbetween the two windows is 27.5". The window to the left of the fireplace is approximately 80" from the ground. I thought about raising the height of the curtain on the window to the left of the fireplace, but I think it would look unbalanced with the door to the right of the fireplace. How would you hang the curtains in the dining room area? Would you use a long rod to cover the whole area or two separate ones? The space inbetween is so wide that I think I would need two panels to cover it, but then would it look funny if I had two panels there and just one on each end?

Hi msrose. My husband bought them for me. I think he bought them through a local furniture store. Here's a link of my post that has pictures where you can see the prints. They are not matted. They lean slightly more towards a sepia tone than a true B&W. The accent color on the frame is sort of a bronze/silver color. Let me know if you need a close-up.
    HTH!

Here is a link that might be useful: My post where you can view the prints

Thank you, charley! I can see them good enough in your pictures. Do they look like they're 18" x 26" in person?

    You're welcome!
    No...they measure exactly 18 1/2" x 23 1/2" including the frame.

True, very true, however the other day I was in our local store and they still had the pillows on display which would be the same fabric as the covers. They feel sort of like a burlap material, not for everyone that's for sure. I agree too, not being able to return something always makes me nervous as well.

I was just in PB yesterday to look at the cameron drapes and they did have a few pillow covers on clearance in the back along with chunky knit throws. They had the one shown above and also the bird pillow which is very nice. The PB drapes ARE made differently so they can be hung either with the rod pocket or rings. I had posted this picture before which shows the threads on the back which the hooks go through that get attached to the rings. They are not clip rings. FYI, the hooks are provided in every package of PB drapes. I have two sets of drapes from PB. I don't think you could get as nice a look with other drapes by just inserting drapery hooks. The hooks wouldn't be able to hold up to the weight of the material. Anyway, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here they are:

I wanted to let you know that the PB Cameron drapes are a very nice weight drape. They are not lined, but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality. Heavy and soft. For $39 a panel, they are well worth it! The ivory color is very nice. I plan on purchasing two in white for a bedroom I am redoing. You would definitely be able to achieve the look you want with these drapes and a set of rings.

kmcg85 - What great, detailed pictures! Did you by any chance look at the Peyton drapes also. I know they're alot more than the Cameron and I just wondered if there was a big difference in person.

I went ahead and ordered the calligraphy pillows from PB. If they don't work, I guess I'll post them on ebay after PB is sold out.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to arrange the curtains on the two windows that are together?

kmcg85 - I have the PB Cameron drapes and they do not come with those hooks. They don't come with any hooks. They are just regular pole top curtains. They also do not have those threads in the back to hold the hooks. Your pictures above look to be the Alessandra curtains? Those are significantly more expensive than the Cameron drapes so that may be why they come with that feature.

I agree that the Cameron drapes are great quality for the money. I have 10 panels in my family room and I am very happy with the look and the quality.

Just checked the PB web site. Both the Alessandra and Peyton drapes say this:
Hangs from the pole pocket or converts to ring-top style with the included drapery hooks.
    but the Cameron just say:
Hangs from the pole pocket or converts to ring-top style with our clip rings. Use with 10 clip rings (sold separately.)

That and the fact that the Cameron are not lined explains why the Cameron drapes are less expensive than the others. But for the money, they are still a good deal, I think.

jillinnj - Do you remember what the diameter is on your curtain rods? I don't want anything too big and I like the way yours look. Also, where did you get them?

I believe the diameter is 1 inch. I got them at Home Depot! Since I needed a lot of them, and had to buy two to make the really long one (DH did something to use the rods on the 2nd set to add to the 1st set), I didn't get the Pottery Barn rods. Would have been too expensive. These are the Martha Stewart line. Very affordable and I think they look good. I think the one I linked below is the one I got.

    Thanks!

I came back to answer your question about the Peyton drapes. They are a linen/cotton, same as my drapes pictured above so hopefully you can get a good sense of what they look like texture wise.

Pretty sofas! Something else that would look really good and would tie in with your pillows you are thinking about it a map of Paris that is cut up and framed. I think there are usually 9 frames or more that would look great over your sofa. What you picked is nice, but you might need more height over the sofa. I have seen the maps at Restoration Hardware and Quatrine. They have them with a silvery/goldish frame that would add some pizazz to your room.

rindy - I haven't seen the maps, so I'll have to do a search and see if I can find anything. Thanks.
