I am wanting to do a trade. I would LOVE to try your: SOLAR FLARE variety and only need about 5 seeds. I have these varieties that I did not notice on your list: Burgess Lemon (only 5 seeds from Wintersown and several years old) Hovarth (only 2 seeds left from Wintersown and several year old) Peacevine Cherry (10 seeds from Kenyon Organics, probably 2 years old) God Love (5 seeds from Kenyon Organics, probably 2 years old) Abe Lincoln (about 10 from Livingston Seed Co, less than year old) San Marzano (about 10 from Organic Ferry-Morse, less that year old) I am rather new to this forum and unsure how to proceed. What fun to see all these! Of the new introductions, I think the hybrid rugosa 'Wild Spice' rates a mention! I once had a hedge of Rosarie de l'Hay, one of my earliest to bloom, and it also had a glorious clove-spiked fragrance. Most rugosas share a unique quality to their scent. Glad to see 'Parole' on the list--a Kordes also sold as Buxom Beauty, a rose which leaped onto my wish list the first I heard of it!

Not at all Pat! Doesn't matter to me in the least ;-) So did you want the gold on the formal and sunny side, or the informal and slightly shaded side? Persicaria 'Golden Arrow' is a nice looking plant with golden foliage and red/pink bottlebrush like flowers. Can do full sun if the soil doesn't dry out, but does best in some shade. Hakonechola 'Aureola' is a great gold variegated ornamental grass for part shade. There are some fuchsias with gold folaige too, like 'Golden Gate' and 'Aurea' and should be hardy for you (in zone 7/8??). Those are best in some shade. For full sun how about a low maintenance shrub? There are tons of golden spireas (Goldmound, Goldflame, Magic Carpet, etc), barberries, and gold leafed 'Worchester Gold' Caryopteris/bluebeard. There are also plants that have gold variegation, like Phlox 'Becky Towe' with hot pink flowers. There are really tons of other great gold leafed shrubs and some perennials out there... let me know if you want me to keep going on. Somehow I am able to remember all this stuff and yet I STILL can't recall what my distant relatives names are LOL!!! ;0) CMK

Hi Joanne, I have not had any problems with disease (other than the PM that came from VB) at all. Too let you know how hardy these things are... the first one I got from VB early last spring was growing well, until I put it in a grow tent with a bunch of basil, thyme etc seedlings and a couple baby avs. Those were the only lights we had at the time. The heater we had in there-well the thermostat failed and the heat was up to 140 F. It fried everything except...the strep. It had a very tiny hint of green (about double the size of a pin head) left on it. I repotted it, took care of it, and within two months it had grown brand new leaves and begun flowering. The only thing that will kill them quickly is over-watering -much more sensitive than AVs in that respect. Lyon's has some nice ones, but I'm going to stick with the Polish type for the most part, and they have very few of those. If there's something you're looking for in particular, Joanne, please let me know. I've got several babies potted up and will have more in a few weeks. These are not Polish-haven't put leaves for those yet (but will in a couple of weeks), but some of these are quite nice! It's too late (too cold) to ship from here any more but come spring time I should have the Polish as well! Best, Judy
