Too much sun shouldn't kill a J. maple but it can cause leaf scorch until the tree gets used to it. Extra deep waterings can help to some extent but the tree will eventually become acclimated. Crimson Queen is considered to be quite sun tolerant, too. There is also a big difference between no direct sun and complete shade :-) Complete shade is usually created by wide overhangs or dense surrounding foliage. The north side of many structures receive minimal direct sunlight but are often very bright, indirect light situations. Many plants grow well in this light situation and your maple may be fine in this location. I have a red laceleaf maple (cultivar unknown - it was there when I moved in) that IS in complete shade from very large surrounding conifers. Not only is it thriving but its color is still very intense and deep red.

My current life span on microwaves is about 6 months. I have gone through 3 in a short amount of time. The one I have now works - occasionally. It shuts off when I try to melt butter. It must be covered with a lid, and even at that it shuts off twice before it melts. Forget microwave popcorn. It just won't do it anymore. Sometimes I just have to unplug it for a while. It won't shut off otherwise. Nice huh? The last two (includes the one I am using now) have been GE. I will never buy another GE appliance EVER! Not sure what I am going to get to replace this one, but I think I will look at Sears. Don't buy anything from Wal-Mart. Some places will back up their appliances for a year - Menards does around here. At least you have some recouse then. Your new one will not last 29 years! That is for sure :) I hope it lasts 29 days! LOL

O poor you Barbara, but I know the feeling, living in Melbourne at the time hubby and I went on a Barra fishing trip to Yellow waters and Alligator River in Kakadu, and we had the same problem Could tell you a funny story about that "Have you ever seen a guy run on the top of water" another day. Just wish they had D.Cameras in those days. Love that thong tree I have seen one somewhere else too. What you describe is the conundrum for those of us who leave for work before sunrise. The flowers are usually only open from just after sunrise until a few hours after. I leave for work at about 4:30 am so can't hand pollinate during the week. I do try to do it on my squash on the weekends if I am having problems with pollination. It's usually only needed when the plants are just starting to attempt fruiting. After awhile the pollinators find the plants and take care of it. I've never had the need to hand pollinate cukes though...that seems like it would be a PITA.
