Question about ref. cabinet case

I'll be having my new counter-depth fridge delivered in a week or so. I don't want it sticking out from the cabinet case any further than it has to, so I took a closer look - well, as close a look as I could with the old fridge still there - and I noticed that the cabinet installer had put a brace back there in the corner. I'm sure he did that just to give that big panel some extra stability. But if it causes the new fridge to stick out more than it should, with more than just the door showing, I'm going to remove it. Do you think that would be a bad idea? Is that brace really necessary? Does anyone else here have a fridge panel from top to floor? And is yours braced with an extra piece of wood?
