how to get rid of musty smell
Comments (5)Musty smells can have different causes. You should be able to find articles by doing a search for "basement odor" or "smell in basement" some some combination like that, both here or using a search engine. I just went through this. I purchased a house that had a very strong musty odor, mainly in the unfinished part of the basement. I was also getting it in the kitchen and bathroom. Not a moldy smell. More like old pipes or something. Definitely musty, but there was no dampness and it hadn't rained in days. I hosed down the cement floor with bleach, then tried Lysol. No go. I washed down the pipes I could reach. No help there. I am running a dehumidifier. Tried fans. Tried air fresheners. Finally, the plumber was here to replace a section of galvanized with copper. I asked them about it. They found that the bathtub did not have a P-trap on it and that there was a sewer pipe in the basement (the big one that sticks up in a stumpy way) that wasn't properly sealed. In other words, I was smelling sewer fumes! All is well now, and my house smells very pretty :)...See MoreGetting rid of mildew smell on clothes..
Comments (21)Mara... I would LOVE to live off-post, but we have 3 chows ( sweetest, most friendly dogs ever ) and most places here at Hood won't let renters have "aggressive breeds" We're allowed to have them on post as long as we keep insurance on them and they don't cause any problems. When we first moved in, the backyard had those old metal poles for line drying, but no line. A few weeks later, maintenance came and took the poles out and we had to sign an agreement to not hang dry laundry to help keep up the appearance of the neighborhood. We have a back porch, but its not covered and is closed on three sides and we back up right next to the housing office haha. I supposed if this load is still stinky, I will just suck it up and them to the cleaners. I really appreciate all the suggestions you all have given me! I have gotten so much help for many problems.. who knew laundry could be so complicated?!...See MoreAir freshner recommend in kitchen to get rid of food smell

Comments (6)Try "Nature's Miracle". You can buy large bottles of it, maybe even a formula for washing machines. The last time I was in Pet Surplus I saw a line of Nature's Miracle products on the shelf but didn't really check them out. I know the liquid worked wonders on my comforter after the stray tom cat peed on it. And it is stuffed with wool! I put some in a spray bottle and soaked the stain with it. Then I left the comforter to air dry, the smell went away but some of the yellow stain remained. So I just left it draped over a chair in the bedroom ever since, and this has been a couple months ago. I wasn't taking any chances by folding it up and putting it away in the armoir until ALL the odor was gone. Even better would be to hang it out in the sun all day - if we ever get any sun....See More- 14 years ago
