Would you mind giving specs on your settings? I haven't experimented with that or even quite understand, with me alot of practice to get to know...

The smiley face picture was with a 50mm prime lens set at f/1.8 the camera setup was as follows: ISO 320, 1.3sec.

The other two were with a 14-54mm at 14mm, f/3.2 and camera was as follows: ISO 640, 1.3sec

Very interesting, Joe. I like your photos - the composition and thought behind them are always interesting. You have a good eye for color as well. But I have to admit that what I like the best is that they give me ideas for images & ideas I may want to capture!

After years of taking garden photos, it's only recently occurred to me that I take some pretty nice photographs. So now I'm trying to challenge myself to move on from the flower macros and 'pretty pictures' and play with the camera and the themes a little more.

Just FYI, there are two part to photography. There is the technical side and the artistic. Knowing how to use the camera properly will help you create the visions that manifest in your head. Of course, styles of photography varies as people are left or right 'brained' and plus, some people just like different things.

I learned how to devolope film in HS but my photog teacher was also my wrestling coach, so I usually spent most of that class in the gym instead of learning how to use my camera. I have always had P&S cameras, last December my wife allowed me to buy a Digital SLR. I had no idea how to use it, so I sent to the library and read books on photography. I really recommend people to do this, **people need to use the public library most often, it a great source for information**. Some people expect a picture to be perfect just by hitting the button. It just does not work that way. There is so much involved in the picture making process; physics, lighting, comppsition that the camera doesnt know exactly what you want it to do. If you have the camera on the Auto setting it will make the best exposure for the subject it is focused on. There have been great innovations in digital photography, with metering, multiple focal points, adjustable ISO levels and White balance that a camera can help people make great photos. However, it can also handicap someone becuase they never really learn how to make photos. There have many times when people see my picture and the first question they ask is " what camera did you use?" - thats only 50% of the photo. Anyhow, good day and good night.
