Help, Oh, Please Help! - Backsplash Installation. (pics)
Comments (11)This is a situation I hate. Short of moving the switches (which isn't always possible), there's no real winning solution. I even talked a friend of mine this summer (who just happens to be an electrical contractor) out any backsplash at all, other than the 4" one that came with his countertop, just because of this, and he said those switches couldn't be moved, because of the way the framing fell, without opening up about 20" of the wall and redoing the framing. If it were up to me, and I had no choice but to deal with it, I'd tile that little space from the side of the cabinet to the door trim....See MoreHelp! Will this back-splash work?
Comments (18)If your choice were only between to 2 you originally posted, I'd choose the one on the right--the cream one. From the photos it looks like it works very well with your quartzite. The gray one is "off" just enough not to look pleasing. However, as many have noted, either one is more difficult to clean than a smooth surface. What sort of cook are you--very neat or more devil-may-care? If you are very neat and do not splash much when you cook, then you may get away with the split-faced marble, but if you are a more exuberant cook, you may find it a challenge to clean. The mother of pearl is very formal and quite busy, so it's going to compete with the counter tops as well. Personally, I would use a smooth crackle tile in a tan/beige tone to work with your quartzite. Simple is always good....See MoreAre only white or marble/gray backsplashes acceptable?
Comments (43)don't think i'd do a taupe grout. (besides, it will blend in w/the edges of the tile and just look muddy. you want some delineation) you can see a taupe color upper right. (too dark and too close to the edge of the tile color) I really like the quartz color. if doing white cabs/countertop, I'd go w/the quartz shade. it has just a touch of gray to it and well let the blue color pop) by all means wait until installed, and have the tile guy do a few sample mock ups w/diff grout colors....See MoreIs this counter, backsplash, and caulking job acceptable?
Comments (10)The countertop looks like it's a little short and they just caulked the hole between it and wall -- perhaps if they used a dark grey or black it would not be so noticeable? Just curious about a couple of other things -- is it just the pictures or is the sink not installed "square" to the wall? Also, why is there a gap between the cabinet and the wall?...See Morezanne_lh
