As mentioned, it can take up to six weeks for the residual testosterone to dissipate after a neuter, so the male kitten may continue making a nuisance of himself for a while. That said, I recently had a nearly 10 mo. old male kitten, Bobble, neutered. Before the surgery, Bobble had chosen one of my other young, neutered males as his "girlfriend" and mounted poor Goober frequently, biting the back of his neck. Goober was most pleased to find that behavior disappeared right along with Bobble's boy parts. They still wrestle, but the mounting is no longer one of Bobble's favorite moves. Hopefully your boy kitten will lose interest in mounting, as well, though, as with dogs, mounting can be a non-sexual demonstration of dominance. In any event, it obviously doesn't bother the little girl too much, so don't fret it. Laurie

As a vet tech here's what I'd suggest. If it's been wet and soggy around the best thing for your dogs paw is to clean it gently but good with soap/water and make sure it stays dry, no licking. Watch inbetween the dogs toes for redness/itching too and do the same if needed. If your going to give your dog anything for allergies I would try 1 tablet of regular benadryl in the pink/white box once daily. If that doesn't work after a few days then contact your vet you don't want to try various antihistamines because they could have things like sudafed (decongestants) in them that dogs bodies can't handle. As far as the ears you did great! As for the nails you might try the new Pedi Paws it could be the feel of the nail clippers or sound that bothers your dog. I get a hand full of dog food and set it aside, if my dog is good the first couple nails I give him praise and a treat etc. Just watch for the nails curling around if they get too long they can grow into the dogs pads but every dogs normal nail length is different. My male cat of 7 yrs. old has these scabs ALL over his body not one bit of him is spared. We had him on various meds- that only help for a bit. We bathe him every other week with Flea shampoo- then Tar shampoo- then condition him well. Then daily we spray him down with Alpha-Kerry Bath oil (you mix a regular size spray bottle- half with the Alpha- Kerry, and fill with water- shake very well) and rub it into his skin. When we do this and stick to it-- he gets again a lot better -and it lasts longer-- We are at our wits end- I cannot stand to see him suffering...so actually we just added in tonight 10 mgs of Predisone- 2ML Omega oils. On top of all we were doing- we plan on giving him 10 mgs of pred. tonight and tomorrow night -then go to 5 mgs daily for a week then 5 mgs every other day-keep weaning til 5mgs 1 time a week...OH also tonight we added in spraying his main sleeping areas in the room we keep him in at night--as he is also on a diet--(poor Boy) So we had to keep him out of the other cats -cat food-we have 3 more cats. plus the dog. We have gone through changing from food to food- all it did was waste money.... We somehow this summer- I swear on my life I have NEVER ever- had a flea problem like the one we are fighting now!!!! We have removed all pets from home and flea bombed every inch- putting 2-3 bombs (yes complete over kill) in each room. Did more laundry then a public laundry... vacuumed- steam cleaned rugs, - and we are literally ready to snap- I was a licensed-certified Vet tech...and I am addicted to education so I also received diploma's in Pet Nutrition- and Dermatology-(Just to keep this brief I will not go into all the degrees and certifications I have,,,,) BUT-- Thanks to severe back pain-- I ended up not only having to give up work all together and going on Disability.. BUT my point is I have been out of the field of animal medicine for about 10 years now- so I am sure that many things have changed. So I am here to see if anyone has any ideas- I am open to any and all suggestions- I am also a Researcher- and love to research- so if I find anything I will now that I know this site exists post my findings. I really want to add --that INDOOR cats outlive outdoor cats by 9-12 years. I volunteer with various rescue groups- and not only have I been taught it in colleges -heard it from Vets--but have seen it with my own two eyes..I beg you all to keep your cats indoors. Ok, I have a minute to tell more about the kitties. They are growing and eating and playing and being just adorable! As far as we can tell they are healthy, and happy! Now eating soft wet food and some dry food (phew)! They are litter trained, and full of energy. I'd say their active time is early morning/late afternoon/evening into the night. Generally, they snooze during the day, (which is fine because I can get stuff done and go out with my family). Glad we got through the tiny kitten phase (as adorable as it was, it was also stressful). So, that's what is going on in their world right now.
