Well, first of all, we are very fortunate that we don't have more than just a few LBs in the house. I know that many people are overrun with them. We have had pet LBs overwinter with us for the last 4 or 5 years. To begin with we noticed that if a little water was splashed near one, it would hot foot right over to it. So we got to wondering if it was hungry. I began trying different things. Smoked sausage was a winner as was cherry jello, but not cheese, jam or jelly. Apple no good, but bananas, raisins and dates brings our little friends out of the woodwork, as does that drop of water. The one in my picture is a female. The males are the smaller ones. If a bug is on a favorite food, it will defend that food. They don't share very well.

Oh, what great observations! I have never been lucky enough to see one all winter long. Had some in the house, and moved them to the plants in the utility room, but then never saw them again.

I've never seen a ladybug indoors, only outside. I know they're good on flowers because they eat aphids. I let them crawl on me, make a wish and blow them off. Lady bug, ladybug, fly away home, your house is on fire, your children are crying.

Arent they the cutest bug you ever saw.I was getting ready for dialysis this morning saw 3 on bathroom window,I left a message for daughter she was comming up later she saved them...I knew she would.She said they had families!!!!1

This is one of our 'pets'. She has spent the winter with us, mostly on or around the sill of the window above the kitchen sink. Here she is sharing our breakfast banana. She also likes raisins and appreciates a drop or two of water every day.

I am glad you have a pet lady bug.
I had a pet spider in the garden and I went out every morning to say hello.
But, alas, a terrible wind and rain storm came and never again did I see my spider.....or the egg case.
Thank you for being so kind to the wee ones of the World.

Carol, I have a pet spider also. He/she lives in the living room at the bottom inside corner of the entry door frame. At least once a week I clean up tiny wings and or legs or otherwise apparently inedible body parts that the spider tosses out. I am sure it is not the same spider that has been there for years, but there is always one there. It is very tiny, but is certainly earning my respect and it's keep. Other than lady bugs, I don't see any other bugs around. The LBs seem to know about what spiders do.

I had a green garden snake by my steps, for a while.

I sat and he was comfortable in the bushes. Neither of us scared the other.

When I lived in Missouri, I had a tree frog living in the hollow arm of my green lawn chair for 2 years. I worked in a florist shop and he came in on some tropical plants, so I carted him home and he lived happily there until the neighbor's cat caught him - very sad.

When we would sit out there on the patio on summer evenings, he would come out and crawl around. He loved to climb on the patio door. Now, I live in Florida and they are everywhere here - I love 'em!
