Umm, looks yummy. Rasberries don't do too well around here and all my blackberries and grapes are gone. Can you ship?!

Don't consider myself an organic gardener but this year I just haven't gotten around to spraying. The only roses that show insect damage are some that obviously had rose slug but they wouldn't have been sprayed anyway because they're right under a hummingbird feeder. And yes, there is some backspot but very little. Probably because things have been very dry. Just a few Japanese beetles and the birds seem to have taken care of them. OTOH, most years I manage to get four or five appplications of fungicides in place and most years they are needed. And I still manage to have a big population of bees, birds, toads, etc. It is possible to grow roses and even spray them without poisoning everything in sight. I use a low pressure pump up sprayer, low concentrations, stay away from systemics and keep the spray on the rose leaves instead of trying to drench everything in sight.

I bought some milkweed a week ago and before I got them in the car I found 6 catapillars on it. I put them in a container and kept fresh food and a few days later surpise they are all in crysalis. I have released one the last 2 days. I enjoyed watching them transform and wow they are so beautiful..

gmom, I have had bluebirds here for quite a few years. I bought two bluebird houses from Wal-Mart A friend gave me two posts to put them on and they have nested here every year. But for the past two years just as the fledglings are leaving the nest something gets them and kills them so this year I discouraged them from nesting. I don't know what is happening but other birds are leaving their nests. There was an article in the paper about a dna being done on a mosquito and it had robins blood in it. Now they are blaming the robin for west nile virus. At least in the area where I live. I like having the birds around they are good company.

rcnaylor,

You being in zone 7 should be able to grow raspberries. Raspberries need about 600-700 chill hours. Looks like zone 7 Texas gets about 1000 chill hours. Have you tried different varieties. I like the day neutral or everbearing types.

Love that pic. Yesterday I was out pruning the raspberry bushes, there were a few late fruits to pick and eat while I was working, delicious.
