This bed is between my house and a 7ft. block wall so winds won't get to it. I put it in the ground in the middle of Feb. We can't get bare roots here til after Xmas so I think I'm fine. I guess I was worried that the other bare roots were up and running (the others did have a few new leaves when I bought it and this one didn't)and this one has done nothing. Maybe I'll back off the water for a day since I've watered it daily and do the mulch around it and the paper bag thing. Hadn't heard of that, Thanks. How long do you do the paper bag thing? Only at night or 24 hrs a day?

If you know how to prune bareroot material, and prune some and don't prune some, as a control, you'll never again suggest anything by Whitcomb Really? Since all of the many trials I've read Whitcomb's descriptions of used controls, I wonder how your statement fits. Or maybe your point is that you find out with the not pruning that the not pruning backfires, and you wish you had pruned - instead of using part of the batch as a control. Sometimes with rants it can be hard to tell what is being said. I do know that I am tired of topped deciduous stock being presented here or shipped to me. A rare hawthorn I had here for years never got over the topping and got pulled out; a crab I've had here long enough for it to be fully established and growing vigorously is growing even more all over the place than many kinds of crabs do anyway because it was topped. What I am talking about is arbitrary top pruning, as Whitcomb calls it, and not selective pruning. As for Dirr's publications, if you don't know what is wrong with some of the things he says, then you don't really know the subjects he is saying these things about. Hi there, sorry, but I'm with Agnes on this one. It might be nothing, but it might be something. I just found out, after YEARS of peeing on myself on accident and seeing the doctors about it (who said what again? oh yeah. more kegals) that I have a prolapsed rectum. My intestines are sitting on my bladder and my pelvic floor can't handle all the weight. My docs (3 of them) have always said no worries, nothing wrong. It wasn't until I went to the colon/rectal specialist that I found out this was a physical problem. So, I think it's great if the Mangosteen is working, just, if it keeps up get an umpteenth opinion.

What would a kitchen designer/fashion/lay-out/furniture/magazines,etc do if we stuck to classics? Out of work! Toss out last years clothing? Rip out a kitchen and replace with the new trend? and then you say a few years later, "what was i thinking?". What a super plan and so horrendously wasteful. Levis and a good linen shirt is something that will last for years. My home is a delight and original from '62. Custom teak cabinets, entry is cork, kitchen floor is terrazzo. The rest is patina wood, the few walls are clear vertical cedar but mostly glass like a treehouse spa in the forest. It is appropriate for my custom home to live as the original architect intended. I have only replaced appliances for a more efficient living 'machine'. I'm sure he would approve. Neighbors have ripped out and trashed and re-configured and should have purchased another style home it they wanted something other than this. But really it is what one wants for their own needs. Who cares. Just follow your gut and cooking style. If you need a fridge that holds frozen pizza boxes, lol, get it. Clearly the planet needs processed food seeing the frozen food isle at the grocery...me don't do that myself. I'm a levi jeans, cook organic from scratch gal. Keep it simple, chop, create, and enjoy. I don't need the new fashion shoe or color or the 'new' and greatest backsplash or counter. That is just marketing and fashion police for followers, not independent thinkers. I never saw the movie but i know the designer. It fits the characters and the story line. Is my kitchen white? nope. But the best kitchens i have seen here at GW are solid representations of their architecture. Not at all a passing fad. I would do the same if it seemed appropriate.
