Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul dry cat food has not been recalled and contains absolutely NO wheat or corn in any form.

I feed Chicken Soup also, my cats thrive on it, I get the Dog Lovers version for my dogs, and they do very well on it
The canned Chicken Soup is ok, I feed a very small amount twice daily. Cats were used to the Friskies cuts but they contain "gravy" and even though not recalled, I was not comfortable with that. They like the "paste" type well enough with a bit of water or broth added, sort of like "soup", which also makes sure they get some liquid into them.

I really urge everyone to do some research. There is an excellent web page out there - they are keeping track of recalled as well as non-recalled foods. Wellness has not been recalled and is safe. There is info on their website about how they are not affected by the recall.

Natures Logic hasn't been recalled but my cat's don't like it. The dry Chicken Soup hasn't been recalled but it can only be a matter of time.

The foods I use are still good. Eagle-pack Holistic, Wellness, and Nutram for the cats. I was going to change them off the Nutram because it isn't as good as some foods, however, the company has not been at all affected by the recall and has sourced their ingredients, and I feel safer feeding a few ingredients that might be junk that they don't need, versus risking feeding them something that might be harmful.

The Chicken Soup recalled is the ones for kittens, not the adult cats - right now all that has really no meaning because most brands outsource some of their products and who know what entity does what for whom - there is no accountability.
I think the dry Chicken-Soup formulas are still ok, they don't contain anything questionable. The cats are so/so about wet food, and they do drink a lot of water, so they can live on dry food. I got some human canned mackarel for them as treat.
Picked up some ground meat - the least expensive - for the dogs, will cook that and add it to their kibble and hope for the best.
For myself, I have quit buying any processed food for the present, so I'll eat more simple and cheap and share my table-scraps with the critters, I like low fat simple foods, so do they.

Read ingredients. If there is no rice protein concentrate or wheat gluten in the ingredient list, it should be okay. To be extra safe, I would just buy foods that do not have any food fragments in them. Whole wheat, rolled oats, brown rice are whole grains. Any germ or bran or meal or gluten is part of the grain - a processed fragment of the original whole grain. It is harder to add illegal ingredients to whole foods.

Nancy - that isn't true. Several of the brands that had recalls over the last week did not have the ingredients on their label. Several of them are claiming that American Nutrition added the rice protein without their knowledge. Is that true? Who knows. But the ingredients were NOT on the labels.

Examples:
* Natural Balance - Venison products - the cat product specifically said it included no rice. Yet, it was recalled for rice protein. The blogs managed to catch their web page as they quickly updated it right after the recall to show the new ingredient.
* Blue Buffalo - claims American Nutrition added the rice protein without their knowledge and according to their press releases has stopped producing with AN.
* Diamond - had a statement on their web page that rice protein concentrate was not used in any of their products. Yet they recalled three products this week (two under Diamond label, two under Chicken Soup label) because they included Rice Protein. These also made by American Nutrition.

So, what can I recommend at this time knowing that labels can lie? I personally would avoid any product made by American Nutrition - this would include their own brands as well as Breeder's Choice, even though they are not recalled.

I would also recommend following thepetfoodlist to really learn about the food out there and what peeople are saying.

Silvergold, Thank You! I had not read that information, and the FDA UPdates I subscribed to did not even mention anything about non-listed ingredients. You guys out here are more reliable than the government, who have to be absolutely certain about something before they say it. THS folks are the BEST!

Hi Nancy - well, the FDA is being highly criticized for their handling of it (heck - I think they are still saying there are only 15 dead pets). I actually receive notifications for all recalls from thepetfoodlist. Glad I could be of help!

I'm switching my cats to Felidae. I'm just not taking a risk anymore on feeding them something that contains ingredients made outside the US. Of course, something could happen here in the US, but for now, it just seems safer to feed them something made wholly in the US.

I decided to try Wellness, partly because I like the small cans of wet food. I stocked up today on both wet and dry food, and lo and behold the cats seemed to love it. This is my third food try in 6 weeks: first Nutro, then Blue Buffalo, now Wellness.
