Well, I was sitting in front of my computer screen in a dark room and looked out the window beside me, and there "it" was. :)

Fantom du Laos translates to Ghost of Laos. You might try looking under that name. I found one description of it at Amishland: "Old variety originating from Laos, large fruits white-yellowish slightly flattened. Very vigorous and very productive plant (it is most productive which we cultivated this year!). Excellent resistance to the diseases. Sweet flavour. There is a strange legend about this variety: the nights of full moon, the villagers deposit it on the edges of the windows and if the tomato becomes fluorescent, a ghost is not far!" I love this ghostly apparition tale . The Asians, however think of the souls of their dearly departed as ghosts, in a good way. This story is really about how a dead relative comes back to visit. It is not about haunting as you might think. The tomato itself had so much to recommend it besides this cool legend. It was my earliest tomato this season, even beating out my Ukrainian and Russian plants! It was a full 2 weeks earlier to ripen than any tomato in my garden. And it was huge, and had a really unbelievable coloration. It literally was an opalescent white and truly seemed to glow! It was impossible to photograph that quality of light coming from the fruit. They are the most gorgeous white tomatoes I have ever grown with not one bit of pink on them ,all pure ivory white. They tended to put out double fruits as well. And it kept on sending out these lovely orbs of light all season long. It lasted until light frost. Great, sweet, mild flavor and virtually no acid." Doesn't sound particularly flavorful, lol, just pretty.

Vic, I got the email. I definitely think it is prudent to be over cautious than not. You just never know with some of the people out there. I will tell you my biggest mistake I ever made with posting my email addy online. I created a listing on ebay for an item that I knew would involve a lot of questions from buyers. So I decided to post my email directly for any inquiries. I ended up removing it the next day because I received a fraudulent email from someone stating that money had been sent from my paypal account to person x in the amount of $119.85 I was then to use a link to view my paypal account. It was a fake site set up to obtain my user id and password. I didn't use the link, I opened paypal in a separate window and logged in through their site and found no transaction had taken place. I then sent the email to paypal's fraud team and sure enough it was a scam. When we post personal info online we open ourselves up to all sorts of hazards. If I were you I would email her back and let her know that you will only trade with folks that are members and have been rated on at least 2 successful trades. You can never be too cautious when dealing with strangers. I have looked at some of the negative reviews in the forum and for all you know this may be one of those people who have been rated badly and doesn't use their profile anymore because of numerous bad trades.

Hi Lucille, what a friendly comment! The first post asked for opinions, so I offered mine. As I said, wishing won't make anything change. It's sad when people and animals die and are no longer in our lives, it's something we all need to deal with from time to time. Peering around corners and looking for apparitions is a red flag, it isn't a sign of successfully dealing with a death as far as I'm concerned, but if that suits you, fine. You're welcome to your opinion too, whatever it is.

Moss Meditation Garden
Q

I could never meditate in a garden like that here, I would be eaten alive by mosquitoes. I could sit in an enclosed screen area and look at it though. I am working on the front of our house this year, but next year I am going to have to finish the several viewing gardens I have started. One is definitely Japanese influenced, but more Shinto than Buddhist. I could never pull off Zen for myself, although I like to look at Zen gardens. Your use of logs is inspiring, since I have many logs now on our property from cutting down two trees. I find them decorative, but my Dad keeps asking me why I have them sitting there . . . :)

There has to be some logical explanation. You must have had your monitor turned off, and that is the man behind the curtain. Works for me.

I don't think it is scary at all.

Yep. The light from the monitor was lighting up my face and causing a reflection in the window. So, I took a picture of the reflection on the glass in "low light" mode. But, I couldn't look through the viewfinder to focus or zoom in. Plus, I don't think the low light mode would have liked the zoom.

Then I put it in black and white mode in editing. Cropped it to enlarge it, that where a good bit of the graininess came in, plus the low light.

But, I thought it turned out kind of fun and folks over here in the photo forum might enjoy it. I'm not as sinister as THAT photo makes me look. :)

You must have handheld the camera as I doubt you used a tripod. Exposure time was 4 seconds, long for handheld. That's why it is a little fuzzy. Camera shake. And ghosty.

I was wrong about the monitor being off though.

You are right on your presumptions, aliska. Of course, if I had had someone else take the pic so as to frame and focus it better, and used a tripod to make it clearer, which, as you note is really important if you want to get a sharp image in low light situations, I wouldn't have wound up with as fun a pic.

The good thing is, with my knowledge of the details of photography, or should I say the lack thereof, many of my photos work out to be happy accidents!

That is eerie...and cool that you captured it! It's funny how photos turn out unexpectedly! We use to watch a painting program where the instuctor said "There's no such thing as 'mistakes, just happy accidents"...
