I'm really looking forward to seeing Reba on that show tonight. Should be interesting.

Just watched it. It was good, wasn't it?

It was good. I zonked out for a bit in the middle, but backed it up and caught most of it.

She really sounds just like her Mom!

This is one show I really enjoy.I was happy they have it again this season.

I didn't get to see it. All the local channels were covering the storms and tornado warnings.

Reba's episode was really powerful. I shed some tears, as it seems I usually do watching this show.

Actually, every episode has been great, with one notable exception -- last season's episode with Kim Cattrall. Her search was for her maternal grandfather. Kim's mother is still alive, knows her own parents' names, etc. But, Kim's grandfather disappeared when Kim's mother was 8 years old. They always wondered what happened to him. Turned out that he had left his wife and married another woman and had children with her. He remained with that woman until his death.

That shouldn't have been an episode of Who Do You Think You Are? -- she should have hired a private investigator to look into what happened.

This season, episode 1 was Martin Sheen; episode 2 was Marisa Tomei; episode 3 was Blair Underwood; and last night was episode 4 with Reba McIntire. Next week (episode 5) will be Jerome Bettis. The other celebrities who will be on this season, in no particular order, are Rob Lowe, Helen Hunt, Rita Wilson, Edie Falco, Paula Deen, Rashida Jones, and Jason Sudeikis.

I saw where Reba said some of what she found out was disturbing, and she had to do some soul searching. What was that about?

Her 6th grandfather was a slave owner. It was an interesting show. My cousins on both sides of my family did the genealogy, and found that both families came over from Germany in the early 1700's. Maybe on the same boat, landed in Phila and went west to Lancaster County. >>My poor male cousin on the maternal side traveled to all these old graveyards looking for headstones. He was killed some years ago . Today he could do a mouse click. So cool.

What was Martin Sheen's story? Sorry I missed that one.

It was, of course, in Ireland, and the dire, bare
poverty her ancestors came from were heart breaking.

It's a miracle that some of these people actually get
out of the terrible lives they had.

I watched it then finsihed it online. Tonight she will be on the OWN channel at 10 pm. Double check, there is a good one at 9pm also.

I don't recall exactly to what she was referring, although I do remember her making that statement. It might have been the fact that her 4x great-grandfather George Brasfield was a slave trader.

Also, Reba wanted to find out which of her ancestors was the first to set foot on American soil. Her research found that her 6x great-grandfather, also named George Brasfield, arrived in the USA at the age of nine, and he was an indentured servant. She found out that he had made the journey without any other family at all. She couldn't imagine why anyone would send their child, alone, on a journey would took several months, to end up in another country. Reba was upset with her ancestors for having sent their child on such a journey alone at that age. She ended up finding out that young George's mother, Abigail, had died, and in those days it was very difficult for a man to raise a child alone. So, George's father, Thomas, sent him to the States. Apparently it was sort of common in situations like this for a parent to send a child to the US, in the hope of the child eventually having a better life than would have it they had stayed back in England.

When I think of Reba, I remember some years back when she spoke publicly about yearning for another child (she had one son) and the fact that her husband (who had three kids by a previous wife) wouldn't agree to it. It got my attention because a conflict that big has the potential for a lot of resentment much later. I just Googled Reba to see if she ever had any more children. Nope, just her son Shelby, who is now 22. She and her husband are still married, so I guess they worked it out.
