Hi Justdowntheroad! You've hit on the biggest problem I've run into with Glass Garden Totems. It is really hard to get them to sit perfectly straight on rebar, since it is much narrower than most vase openings, and the top, where the glass rests on the metal, isn't flat. I've been playing around with pvc pipe which is fairly cheap and easy to cut, It comes in lots of diameters- but be aware that the measurements are of the INSIDE diameter of the pipe. If you slide a piece of pvc pipe that fits inside your bottom vase, over your rebar and make sure it extends just a bit past the top, AND make sure it is cut flat and level, your Totem should sit nice and straight. (of course your rebar needs to be sunk into the ground straight up and down too!) Good Luck! Kathy

Bummer! That's a nice looking specimen. I agree with your initial thoughts and what the other folks have mentioned. I'd trim off enough of the branches to be able to lift it back up and to not have it lean in the direction it fell, and then I'd lift it on up and really tamp down the soil. Putting a nice big rock nearby to stabilize it might help--plus it would look great too. You can just store the cuttings somewhere for several days to many weeks and then re-plant them. Good luck! Yes, I can: The true and full name for this plant is Cupressus sempervirens 'Totem'. This one is found as a seedling selection by Travor Devies and Cyril Watson from New Zealand. The 'Totem' doesn't beary cones because it's steriel which make it differend from all the others. The full discription of this conifer is descibed in the conifer book "Promising Conifers" published by the Dutch Conifer Society" There's an English version available, several of our forum friends do have this book already...

Either could work.....it depends on your preferences and the size of you garden. Personally, for just a privacy screen, I wouldn't want the plants in question to eat up much valuable outdoor space so I'd likely go with a single row. And just so you are aware, plants - even rather densely planted evergreens - do not provide much of anything in the way of sound blockage. You need several hundred feet of dense growth between you and the sound source for any relief. Or a solid masonry wall.
