I got my cabinets through a small custom family-run company in Woodinville...all ply construction, cherry, soft close etc. I had a wonderful experience with them.

I wanted quarter sawn oak but they could not do that...so I ended up going with cherry in a custom stain. The owner had a long history/experience with Huntwood cabinets so they can also pretty much match any of Huntwood's stains.

My cabinets will be installed within the next week so I can post pictures then. Let me know if you want to do something other than QSO and I can introduce you to them.

You might want to try Kenis Lovin--I considered having him build cabinets (painted inset shaker style) for my kitchen remodel, and visited a local home where he had built and installed similar cabinets, which were very nice. In the end I went with Crown Point instead, but not because I had any issues with the quality of his cabinets. I don't know if he does QSO or not. (http://www.kenisloven.com/)

Or, if you aren't completely sold on a local cabinet maker, you might want to get a quote from Crown Point. They have a gorgeous line of Craftsman style cabinets, and I found that the price they gave me was in line with quotes from local custom cabinet makers, both for my kitchen cabinets and some bathroom cabinetry I am having them work on right now. Not inexpensive, but not as bad as you might think.

I have a small custom job that would be great for the right shop. I have tried some of the more well known cabinet shops and have been very dissapointed in thier attitude.

I'm not looking for bells and whistles, just quality.

I second Kenis Loven Construction - he built some custom built in shelving for us that is beautiful.

Seattle area shop? Try Henrybuilt. They make lovely cabinets and furniture, do work with quarter-sawn/rift oak for both, and are local to Seattle. They do tend to push themselves more as a contemporary line rather than traditional, but that may just have been what I've paid attention to rather than the limits of their interest.

Kenis Loven will be doing our cabinets in Cherry. He is very easy to work with and does wonderful work. I know he's done a lot of different woods, but I do not know if he has done QSO. I think he does mostly Cherry and Maple but I've also seen some of his work in a Shaker style in Hickory. Kenis does free estimates at your home and draws it all on his computer. He can also provide references so you can go see actual installed cabinets, which is what we did.

True high quality custom cabinets do not look like anything you would get from a big box store, or even from someone like Wood-Mode, which we also considered. They have features that set them apart. They are expensive, but are worth it to us since we plan to stay in our house for a long time.

It was a reference from a tradesperson who has seen some of his stuff. I have not talked with him yet, but supposedly mostly does craftsmsn style finishing.
