Medallion in office came pre-stained:

We just bought a home that has medallions in the bedrooms, I think they are some type of plastic? that is originally white and that are still white, the same as the ceiling. I personally wouldn't change them, but I've seen some pictures of beautiful ones in color. I guess it depends on the decor of the room. I wouldn't change them in the bedrooms, but I'm thinking of putting one in the living room and I'd definitely consider something with golds in there, that will match the decor of the room.

We painted ours the same color as the crown moulding, Behr powdered snow. The medallion I like the best is in the dining room, the color of the tray ceiling is Raffia Creme not white, so the medallion really stands out.

Thanks to all of you! The last painter I had painted the medallions the same as the ceiling paint. He used Muresco white ceiling paint which is extremely matte and I just don't think the medallions look right. It could be the paint job which wasn't the best. Two of mine were plastic that had yellowed so the white is much better but I'm wondering if using the trim paint (BM Impervo-oil-satin) would look better.

I would say I need more info about the decor in your room.

toocolorcrazy - I hadn't thought of changing the color from white to something else. I guess it was about flat white ceiling paint versus satin white oil paint that was used for the trim.

I have a smaller home and all the ceilings are white - the walls are BM Bronzed Beige.
