It's not the shades, although It is nice to pick a halfway, one quarter, or even a one third point to partially roll up in daylight. At that point? They resemble roman shades. I like a wider three inch vein, you may not have had casing depth, or it was a price issue. The REAL issue in the space is a strict tonal effect bordering bland. No look of living I can see, from the pics. Not a scrap of color, nothing on the dining table. Nothing on the counter............leaving us wondering do you live here? I'm all for uncluttered, however., even neutral needs a push. Roll the shades up a bit, show the rest, and in daylight. Go to the market, grab several bunches of ONE flower.........get some fruit, put it in a big clear bowl. Tangelos. oranges, whatever. What you are saying is, it feels cold. Yeah: )

Yes, it is cut, but it's the white paper that's cut with the black paper underneath and then the hair and clothes details are drawn on. So it's the white paper that's cut but not the black. And no, no signature. The frame looks old (but hey the 20s/30s are old) and I've not wanted to take it apart fearing that it may be fragile if it is really old. If you would take it apart the black paper would be separate and then you would have the cutout piece for the head and chest with the collar in between.

Try selectblinds.com for better pricing. I think they call them "Sheer Shades" on their website. We had a professional come to our home and measure for Graber blinds, but the quote we got back was a lot higher than I was expecting. I was able to get the same kind of window treatments I wanted at Select Blinds for 1/3 the price and they were easy to install. If you create a shopping cart and save it, a salesperson will call you (which annoyed me at first) and offer you additional discounts (I was no longer annoyed after that 😁). I literally saved thousands.

columnar sweetgum Slender Silhouette or Happidaze?

I've seen 'Happidaze' in a few arboretums and it's definitely not columnar at all: perhaps a little more slender than a typical Sweetgum, but it's pretty pyramidal if anything. I believe the main selling point of 'Happidaze' is that it doesn't produce fruit. If the very tightly columnar/fastigiate look is your thing, 'Slender Silhouette' would be the way to go if you're set on Liquidambar. In addition to the other species GG mentioned, there are a number of columnar cultivars of Acer saccharum with nice fall color: 'Newton Sentry' and 'Monumentale' are two off the top of my head. A. saccharum is, of course, a bit more sensitive to things like road salt and drought, so that would be more dependent on your placement/local conditions.

Hey, was that you in my front yard taking a picture of my palm tree?!? LOL - it does look very similar. There's just something so striking about palms against the sky. And that color is beautiful, shading from purple to blue. Nice job!

The Bighorns, beautiful. Jefferson, sobering. California coast, majestic. I'm pretty sure this thread would make a great backdrop for American the Beautiful. Great pics.

Thanks. I have always enjoyed that one. It looks like it has been photoshopped or fixed up with edits, but, its pretty close to what was out there that morning.

Beautiful, RC. I've always liked windmill pictures. We have one on the farm here, but, it's not used anymore. Yours looks like a Chicago Aermotor if I'm not mistaken.

And, Ron, your windmill knowledge obviously exceeds mine, even though we're surrounded by them out here. I'll have to check out what that one says next time I'm out that way.

Great hummer, Konrad. I can never get bird shots that detailed.
