They had a bed on the Antiques Road Show that folded out of a piece of a furniture. That was pretty neat. I always thought Murphy beds were really nice for a person who didn't have much room.

Oh I love it , I have always thought they were so neat and convenient.

But I have got to ask what is that lamp? It looks like a genie that pops out of the magic bottle!

Raven, a friend gave me the lamp last year, for my birthday... cause I had just moved in to this house. So far, I haven't found a place to put it.

Of course, having only one outlet in some of the rooms doesn't help. :)

Love it! That would be perfect in my Florida room for when the grandkids come over. Where did you find it...in a store; online, etc.? Tell me more!!! Did you install it yourself? Does it come with a mattress? I have so many questions...thank you for posting it.

More questions - do you have to anchor the cabinet to the wall or floor?

I think it's a great idea. I hate the inflatable ones - I think they're more for kids than 'mature' ladies.

Ok, here it goes. While still married we had a great exercise room, where a murphy bed would have worked really good, to make the room also work as a guest room. But my ex thought it was to expensive.

Well, yes, it was expensive. Just shy of 3000 bucks. But I have wanted one for years... I knew how handy they are, my dad owned one.

I googled last Friday, found a company in the greater Oklahoma City area, and contacted them. They called me back. I bought. I called the mattress place where I got mine from (City Mattress, where they still make them, right there) and ordered one too. With other words, the bed comes without one like almost all beds do.

Installation came with it... no extra cost! But also, cause it was in their delivery area (also no extra cost).

The legs are metal, attached to each other by a bar, and you have to remember to fold them in, before putting the bed up, to keep from damaging the wood.

There is a velcro strap to secure the mattress and bedding, when you fold the bed up.

It is anchored to the wall, across the very top of the wooden frame.

He had a tough time finding studs in my plaster and lathe walls, and I still need to fill all the holes in. :)

Oh, and the real kicker!!!! My girlfriend said, why didn't you look on craigslist, there is one on craigslist near Okc.

I did check that, and yes, there is one (for a WHOLE lot less!), but it is to late, and I don't worry about that. Besides, mine came delivered, and installed!

I love it too. We had twin size Murphy beds in my college dorm room so this brings back a lot of memories.

Looks great! My cousin has one in her office in FL and we slept on one at the beach house for years, we love Murphy beds! I would like one for our guest room, but because the walls are slanted, I couldn't get a queen sized one in there. They do make long horizontal ones, but still, not enough room for anything bigger than a twin.

I like it! Always wanted one, too, but never had a place one would fit and still don't. I love the way it looks when it's closed.

That mattress looks so comfy! It sure beats any futon or air mattress by a mile. I'd sleep with the door open in case there is a need to get out in a hurry.

Don't fret about the one on Craigslist....the guys who delivered it and installed knew what they were doing. You and someone else, may not have been so lucky had you gotten the other one.

I'm thinking of building one of these. However it'll be the kind that folds up side to side rather than bottom to top (low ceiling).

But...
what if the occupant falls ill? How do paramedics get into the room?

Paramedics can enter the room from the bathroom.

This is a two bedroom house, with the bathroom between the rooms!

Great. I always have to get up to go to the bathroom during the night, and I'd hate to have to fold up the bed to get out! plenty of room there.

I love the cabinet and the bed. It will definitely serve its purpose!

we had a murphy in a door bed when I was growing up in Chicago. In the apartment in the dining area was a closet and we'd roll the bed out (it would be standing up on end) and lower it and then lift it up and roll it back into its closet. it was very nice when it was in the closet there was about 3 feet of unused space at each end I claimed those spaces as my own and had a small desk on one side and orange crates stacked oin the other end for shelves I had many happy times in there listening to my radio.Wish I could find a photo of it
