I am thrilled!! I mean super excited!! I just spotted my first pair of Baltimore orioles today!! My neighbor has has an oriole feeder out for several years but we've never spotted one. Now she is in a nursing home and hasn't had anything in her feeder and NOW they showed up. So I rushed around my house and found some thick copper wire, wrapped it around a small plastic cup, glued a yellow lid to the bottom and filled it with home made oriole sugar water mixture. Crossing my fingers that they come back! I'm going to make another feeder with hooks to stick on some orange wedges. These are such stunning birds. How I spotted them was I was cleaning our sons bedroom and saw them out the window on the tops of my dogwood tree jumping across the tops. They did this for several minutes. I then rushed down to my yard after they flew off to see if they were in my yard but no luck. I sure hope they return. Absolutely STUNNING birds!!

I believe in the same vicinity; not very close to where last year's nest was though. They might be busy building a nest somewhere else and doesn't have time to come by the feeder.

That's a great shot, Konrad!!

If I get one Baltimore Oriole sighting a year, I'm lucky. But this year a pair actually nested here, and I managed to get a long-distance shot of one of the babies before his (her?) flying skills developed. So cute!

I've never seen an oriole in my life, and oranges are my favorite colors, so am really enjoying these two pictures. Plus, it's encouraging for us newbies to see such a good photo as Konrad's taken with a "lowly" p&s!

Your photos are always amazing. Can you give us some details for settings, distance, etc for it? It's truly breathtaking.

Speaking of Orioles, here's a photo of a first year male Orchard Oriole at our birdbath. It is a first for me.

I never see em either. And I see a LOT of birds. Wow. Your picture is fantastic. Have you thought about submitting it to Nat Geo? You'd have a fair shot at getting it published in their magazine.

Alisande, you're very fortunate!...I have about 4 acres of bush and
they might have nested somewhere, hopefully some year's I'll see this
too? ...Great shot of the little one!

ms_minnamous,...Thank you for your thoughts, I will look into submitting it somewhere...I know this shot is very special to me, it's a fluke,...like hitting the jackpot, I was sooo surprised, and this is one, out of about only 7 pictures the camera took, it just happen the bird set perfectly, the back ground was good and lighting was perfect, camera took picture by itself, about 12 inches away from bird. I made a home brew remote, it's self activate on a motion control board, the camera is inside a watertight pelican case and shooting through a glass, the camera is set on auto.

I learned the build on the web, Google trail camera, it's what hunters
use to check on wildlife, parts, [motion board] is from USA , if you don't feel comfortable
doing it yourself, you can get them build for around $200.
The 3 small batteries is running the motion board, the 2C batteries
are additional power for the Camera besides the 2AA in the Camera.
There are commercial trail cameras but never have the quality of picture.
If you have a Sony S600, [the best] or a P32, P40, P41 I think, P42,..you have a valuable
camera homebrewers like to get their hands on!
