I have the same problem with my sago palm -- our house is under construction -- I put th palm in an area where it gets northern light and under a large tree. It is in a very large pot -- and has been for the last 5 years or so. It has never drooped like this before -- ever. Does my palm have root rot? It is difficult to plant it in the ground as the entire property is torn up for construction and landscaping. I grew this palm from a baby -- it is about 15 years old. Suggestions, anyone? Does it need B-12 and fresh soil? I watered copiously today -- I hope I didn't drown it...

NO. This is a common practice and I hate it. A Queen Palm looks beautiful with a full crown of fronds. Here in L.A, I've seen unbelievable Queens bursting with healthy fronds, but I've also seen over trimmed Queens with two fronds and it looks really stupid. The problem is uneducated gardeners and lack of instruction and training. I've seen no evidence that cutting fronds off a Queen Palm induces speedy growth. It's a palm, and all palms prefer to have a full head of fronds. I have two Queens and I told my gardeners, do not cut anything off unless I tell you to. If they keep doing this you will see thinning of the trunk. Don't let this happen again. Good luck!

Mangos are like the most common fruit tree here in St. Pete. I see them everywhere. They're way more common than any citrus. Some of them look ancient. I've seen some with canopies bigger than any other tree in the neighborhood. I think I remember seeing mature rambutans here too but I'm not absolutely certain. I've definitely seen smaller ones planted out and they're often sold at my farmers markets along with many other exotic trees, rollinia, jackfruit, soursop, etc.

Where I live I am surrounded by fallen palm fronds - and as I have always seen the beauty in them - I set about trying to find ways to harness their beauty and began to create what you see here. It has been a journey of "trial" and "error" thats for sure - but now I am feeling pretty happy with the results.
