Blue flowers

These were in a package of wildflower seeds I planted last year. I think they are so pretty and they bloom early in the morning by afternoon they all fall off but by morning they're blooming again. Does anyone know what they are?

Hello, I see your post is old but I LOVE Wandering Jew and I am sure you must still have some. I had some in planters in the Summer of '08 that had branches fall to the ground and they showed up the next summer. Just a couple, they were sheltered in a flower bed. I would love to have some that for sure came up every year. I am in midwest MI. Where are you? I am new to iVillage Garden Web Susan T.

I used Volga Blue. I too have a couple of skylites and also a covered patio outside so I don't get a lot of "direct" light however my kitchen window in front of the sink is quite large and I have plenty of lights incl. under cabs. Volga looks beautiful lights on or off. I don't have anything "blue" in my home - but after going to just about every slab yard around (at least 10) I chose volga blue after seeing those subtle abalone-like markings within the the black. It actually showed some depth when looking at it. When walking in the room it reads as black however once your up close you see the beautiful markings in it. It looks fabulous with my white marble island. As someone who changes/moves things around from place to place in my house/kitchen, I did not want a lot of "movement" in my counters. I have different colored dishes, place mats, etc. and everything looks great with it and was thrilled the second it was installed! Could not be happier. If you are looking for something that actually shows/reads blue when you walk into the room - this is not the right choice for you. Hope this helps

Thanks to both of you. So good to know. I quite like them. I am not too troubled by them showing up everywhere in my garden but I would not want to think that they are invasive and it would be a bit challenging to thoroughly remove the spent flowers though I could try. Across the road is a forested area and a path with tall wild plants like goldenrod and aster and beyond that a marsh. I don't want to do anything irresponsible. I understand they are short lived. Should I be concerned about them spreading to this natural area across the road?

I had to look up 'Patterson's Curse :-)) Darn common names!! It's definitely an echium but hard to differentiate between the two likely suspects mentioned. Both seem to be heavily present and equally aggressive in that region. I am personally only familiar with E. vulgare. And those photos sure look similar. It is a great plant for pollinators but far too rampant in its growth. It is a listed noxious weed in my area.

Thanks Konrad. I couldn't get through on the link above but typed in flower and found it. It is a perennial and blooms a long time. It's a wild prarie flower.

That's a beautiful shade of blue- bet a bed of them would be pretty.

gmom74 I have five of them growing in my garden and yes they are very pretty. Seeing that they are perennials I am going to dig one up this fall for my daughter.

Maybe I can find some plants at our farmers market. That would be faster and easier. Why didn't I think of that in the first place?

Beautiful shade of blue! It's hard to find that color in a garden. So many "blues" are more purple or lavender.

Yes indeed blue flax...bought a package of seeds and planted 3-4 yrs ago and they look just beautiful in masses...from the beginning of planting them to when original plant dies is about three-four yrs(just from my experience) but they reseed readily...they are all over my garden!

Those are a nice blue.

rc. Very pretty. I love flowers of all kinds. I can buy perennials from a farm market for ninety nine cents each and every year I buy different plants. Some only last one year though. Especially delphiniums.
