It's so cold, we closed off the front room where a ton of my plants are. It was 52 in there this morning, that'll have to do. Really hoping it warms up some today, only about 10ð warmer in this room. Come on, â¼! Please make the temp go âÂÂ! Enough âÂÂâÂÂâÂÂ. I agree with both of the above. No matter which way the ceiling fan is going, the added air movement makes me cold in the room where I'm sitting. The one I leave running is in the front room where people only pass through. When all of the doors are open, which they usually are, it seems to be plenty to keep air circulating gently through the other rooms. That's what I'm able to do for air movement w/o making us feel colder. Peace â® âÂÂ!! (How bored am I this morning?)

Helenium in my experience are not particularly drought tolerant either. "Misting" is generally not going to provide a lot of water to the plant, in particular the roots. I would suggest letting the hose run at a very low rate at the base of the plant each morning for 30min during periods of sunny, dry weather. Conversely, run a short soaker hose.

I am usually on the winter sowing forum, but I found this forum last night. I should probably check it out more often because I live in Niceville, which is in the Florida panhandle about 60 miles east of Pensacola. I moved here 2 years ago and bought my house--the gardenias were already here--they are huge, probably never been pruned but they are so pretty, I haven't been able to prune them even though they are about 8 feet tall. They are on the southwest side of my house, which is in the shade almost all day because I have a lot of large trees. They lean over the fence to get some morning sun from the neighbors yard. If fact there are more blooms on their side than on mine. I think they are beautiful, and the heat doesn't hurt them at all. I love them, and thought you might like to see some pictures of them. More likely to be one of the fungal or bacterial infestations Japanese maples are prone to. One party posting on UBC Botanical Garden Forums web site says sloppy nursery practice is resulting in some being sold with Pseudomonas infestations that manifest after planting out, otherwise Verticillium is commonly named as causing dieback in Japanese maples (there are other agents known to afflict these as well). Impeded drainage is also a special hazard for these, drainage must be good. Watering every other day you may have rotted the roots. Watering frequency varies with weather and soil texture, check your specimen for its individual situation before watering. If planted with an intact field soil (often clay-like) or potting soil rootball be sure to inspect this separately from the surrounding soil as the moisture situation inside of and outside of the original rootball is liable to be different (one of the reasons bare-rooting at planting time is now being advocated by some).
