Hear, hear! Beautifully written, Westelle. (I thought I posted this last night.... did I forget to hit Submit?) My 86-year-old dad rode in a Memorial Day parade today in La Canada-Flintridge, along with about three dozen other WWII veterans. The crowd was especially appreciative of these men as they passed by. Before the parade they were part of a nice ceremony in a park where each went to the podium and told the audience a little about where they served and their role in the service. There were also men and women who served in Vietnam and Iraq, and a handful in uniform. My dad was a Marine involved in the Battle at Guadalcanal. He told us that when he enlisted, he missed the group who went to Wake Island by just 4 men... he thinks he'd be buried there if he enlisted just a short time earlier. It was a very special ceremony for a group of very special people. Jen

Thank you Jeff - this is so true! Thanks for posting. Frances

Thanks for all the new wishes! This birthday has lasted all weekend. I had a great day today marching in the Memorial Day parade, carrying the library banner. Only one kid on a bike ran into the back of my ankle -- that was better than other years!

Little ones make a parade just that much more enjoyable. Shirley
