Reverse Osmosis: Can I Hook Up to Regular Faucet?
Comments (6)Hi! Merlin RO system! Somebody may have the different experience with it but I am pretty much disappointed. After much endeavor to install it, the result is; water tastes pretty bad, no one wants to drink it (out of 20 people who are meant to use it in our place). Those like me who tried it have got the stomach upset. I flushed the system before use as it is recommended but water still has bitter, chemical taste, after a week or so. System doesn't leak, so far but it is unusable. This system also wastes 5 gallons of water per every one gallon it produces, so it is pretty much a waste. Also you may visit this link to read bout RO systems and other water filtration systems. Any other experiences in this regard welcomed. Comments (3)4mom23girls, I'm looking for the same thing. However, I'm in no hurry since it's a nice to have and not a must have. It's easy to swap out once I find one that I like. Here's what they look like, Vinnata in vibrant stainless steel and the faucet that comes with the Watts RO-PURE RO system from Costco. Not too easy to tell from the picture, but the colors are very close, but not 100% match. And the shape of the faucet might not be your cup of tea. I have the Watts RO installed for over 4 months now, and so far been happy with it. I had a non quick-change RO system before the remodel, and those filters were a pain in the rear to change. Notice that I have an air gap on the left. Since I'm in CA and need an air gap for the DW, I got one of those twin inlet air gap so I don't have to use the one in the faucet. Less tubing connections so less chance for leaks. Also, I have a single sink with a garbage disposal, so I can't just drill a hole in the drain pipe for the RO waste water tubing to connect to. If I don't have a twin inlet air gap, then I'll have to buy an adapter for the garbage disposal to hook up the RO drain tubing. Something to think about if you have a single sink with a garbage disposal. A couple of links that might be helpful: twin inlet air gap drain line adapter...See MoreHaaaaallllpp! Desperate! Reverse Osmosis Faucet Question!
Comments (4)Thanks so much for your replies. I'm probably an idiot to have gone for the "look," but I couldn't bear to part with the faucet, so I let the plummer go without installing the Whirlpool RO so now I've got a dummy faucet which is silly. Am going to try to find another solution fast (thanks for the suggestions kaseki!)so I don't have to park those giant bottled water casks in my new kitchen! To answer your question: The Whirlpool RO tubes connect as follows: Two tubes connect to the RO device -- one to fetch the product water from the post filter and the other to collect waste water from the osmosis membrane. The third tube runs from the faucet to the drain to dump the waste water. The faucet contains an air gap and control value. Whirlpool claims that backflow through the osmosis membrane will damage it whether the air gap is required in your state or not. It's all too complicated for me....See MoreFaucet that works with Reverse Osmosis water filter
Comments (2)Hi flatwater, I'm with Dornbracht and glad to hear that you like our faucet. David already said it best, our faucets don't work with RO water. The hot and cold water faucets are meant to be combined with a tank and filter system from insinkerator (a carbon based filter). If you really need RO, I can't point out other manufacturers, but as said before, maybe our dealers can - you can find a dealersearch on dornbracht.com.
