So very interesting. Thanks for the update. I wonder what the rice will taste like. And, I have to wonder if the rice grains will be blue as the name may imply.

How pretty. I have always wanted to try bluebonnets. But my place is too shady. I threw some seed out by the mailbox one year but they never came up. I think I will try again. Sam

I'd like the information that states it's illegal for someone to deface bluebonnets on private property. As I mentioned in a previous thread (I think it ran last year this time) I have a large bluebonnet meadow I've planted by seed. Each year my meadow is bigger and more beautiful. Each year I have people who ask if they can take pictures and I am happy to go outside to show them where to stand so as not to smash the flowers. Each year some people think they can go right into my flowers and set their kids down, then take the pictures they'd like. All the while smashing my flowers off at the base of the plant. Please someone email the information regarding the illegality of this type of action. Would you believe yesterday I made a lady get her toddler out of the center of my flowers and after I had informed her they were loaded with bees and fire ant hills, she still had to snap a photo of him before walking across my flowers to lift him out! She mentioned on her way to her SUV that she's my new neighbor! I asked her where she lives so I can come by and walk through her garden! I enjoy sharing the meadow, but I don't enjoy people being selfish and disrespectful of my private property.

They are considered a biennial because they get started in the fall as a rosette and then bloom in the spring. I usually plant my blue bonnets so they get the september rains. I did them in October this year. I am unsure of what their ideal germinating temperature is but It might be getting on the late side. There is a bit of cool warmth coming up. I would get them in the ground as soon as possible . Maybe scarify and soak them. Here is a link that might be useful: Planting instructions
