Rug Peeking into Doorway

We live in a grocery store - which creates some interesting issues decor wise - and one I am struggling with is the "dining room" rug. We don't actually *have* a formal dining room; however, we are carving out a dining room space for our bespoke table (3'x8') in the area under our loft. The entire old storefront is completely open, but less than 15' wide. There is a 48" door way that leads into the rest of the house. There is also a staircase that runs up the exterior wall into the loft with a pole that supports the stair platform.

All that being said, is it wrong to use a flatweave rug in 9x12 knowing that it will extend into the 48" doorway? The rug will coordinate, but not match, the rug in the family room. I'm actually thinking more about tripping than anything else. The floor in the storefront (and the family room) is concrete, so I really want a rug to soften and further define the space. A 12x15 won't work because the space isn't 15' wide and, if I run it the other way, is just too long for the table (and it will still stick out into the door).

I'd say the rug is probably going to be about 6-8" into the doorway. It's a main traffic pattern from the front door into the main living.
