While Digatal SLR's do not have the same problems with camera shake as Point & shoot, it can still be an issue particularly at longer exposures. I have moved to Nikon VR lenses for that reason and I am quite happy. Mind you it will also depend on the kind of photography you are planning. I do a lot of macro using a 105 mm and bird photography using a 70-300 amongst others. Longer and heavier the lens the more valuable I have found the VR.

I went to the nearest camera shop (36 miles away) and found out that although Pentax touts the camera as being compatible with Pentax k series lenses, they are not compatible with ones for the Pentax K1000. The Pentax K1000 is a completely manual camera and all my lenses (obviously) are manual, not automatic. While the lenses fit, you can't take photos with them. If you have Pentax lenses which do have an automatic setting, some of them will require you to do manual focusing (some don't have auto focus) but at least the camera will allow you to shoot with it. So...in the long run, I'm not so sure I did so smart a thing...too bad that nothing I read made this clear. Certainly the operating manual doesn't cover it either. I can handle focusing myself, but the lenses I used on the K1000 don't work at all.

Thank you both for the links. Joe I found the answer I was looking for on your link. Susan the one you posted will be a great place for me to go to learn [hopefully]. I did spend quite a bit of time there this afternoon before Joe posted his link. I find interesting how different people come up with the different links. I have spent quite a bit of time googling nikon lens, nikon d80 lens, lens for nikon d80 and a few other ways and never found what I looking for. I found mostly sale sites. Your the BEST! Thanks again! Syd!

I am not familer with what lenses Olympus has, but I can give you some general ideas. For taking pictures of birds a lens of 200mm or larger is best. A zoom lens from 80 to 200mm or 70 to 300mm would work also. The tele extension lens that you have could also work with these lenses to bring an object even closer, but with a decrese in quality.
