Maureen- you should try species tulips instead of the hybrids. Squirrels don't bother them and mine come back. I have: T. praestans unicum- variegated foliage and gorgeous red blooms; T. batalinii Red Gem- cute little red tulips; T. batalinii Bright Gem- cute yellow-orange, multiplying better than Red Gem; T. Little Beauty- cute little magenta blooms with blue centers and I'm thinking of ordering some more soon. I like the fancy daffs like the doubles, flat cups, and butterfly forms. They seem to repeat OK for me. I also like fragrant ones like Quail, Geranium, and Pheasant's Eye. I buy from Brent and Becky's (10% off if ordered by June 30, today), MacClure and Zimmerman's, and Scheepers. I also get some at season's end from local nurseries and stores on clearance, and they bloom even when planted late.

I did buy a lot of bulbs, Tulips, Daffs and Dutch Iris. Plus it was quite lots of work getting them all planted. Plus they did add up but I was just in the mood to have lots of bulbs blooming this spring. I already know I will order more for this fall. As for the way they are along the walkway, I guess each person has their own vision of what whould look best. I wanted them like this, each variety separate on the two sides, not mixed together. And I wanted them in that long wave, not separated into drifts. So I made it this way on purpose.

Sue what are you trying to do to me! First I thought you were an enabler.... that was cute, now it's looking more like you're a pusher! I'm sitting here thinking yeah, I could use another "hit" of bulbs.... just a quick hit, it'll be the last one of the season.... the wife will never have to know. I think they are all crocus (lucky for me, I would have ordered them on the spot if they were colchicums) Actually one of them is not a crocus. The yellow ones are sternbergias and I don't think they're as hardy as Van B says they are. I just looked on B&Becky's and they say 6 is the limit of their hardiness. I used to see them growing wild down in Texas and thought they were nice.... actually I think I did see them once in NY though. Maybe they are a little hardier..... Hmmm Sue. You really are tempting me. I better think about it until it's too late and I don't have to make a decision. that will be my plan. Of course on the up side, the one that I have is the one that is sold out. I have the Sativus and it bloomed back in late October. It's got leaves now and will be that way until later next spring.... then it will be perfect for digging and mailing! hmmmm. how much could a split order possibly amount to? hmmmmm......

I see Bowie coming to help you in the garden :-)) I was just thinking as I looked at the pictures that I saw empty spots and I couldn't believe they had no daylilies when you said at the end your going to put your new daylilies there. Sounds like a great plan to me :-)) You last daff closeup is very pretty but then so are your double daffs, especially the one with the orange. Your garden is such a riot of spring, I have never seen so many daffs and such pretties all over the garden. I like the tulips too.
