It's Muscari neglectum, grape hyacinth, which has naturalized in Texas. Here is a link that might be useful: Muscari neglectum, grape hyacinth

Thanks all! Look forward to seeing your pictures soon too, pj. Kathy, hope you have time to go home on Hwy 290 and see the beautiful Bluebonnets in Chappell Hill. Just stunning. We won't leave reseeding to chance yet because the seeds can remain dormant for years. We scuffed them with bricks, soaked overnight and then planted them back in October right before we had three days of rain in a week. As soon as the sun came out, the sprouts were up and we've been waiting since then. We'll do that the next few years. The field in the slide show is the last of the undeveloped commercial land in our neighborhood so it will probably be gone soon. I'm so glad we got good pictures when we had the chance. I've also collected seeds from many of the flowers back there to bring into the yard. To do anything else with that spot would require hauling several truckloads of dirt around the house by wheelbarrow only to see it wash into the creek when it rains, so wildflower meadow is the logical choice.

I can only tell you my own experience with blue bonnets. We live in central texas, rocky, dry, etc. I planted the seeds in November, as recommended, only one time. In subsequent years I've had b.b. blooming from January through June. Take into consideration I have a strange back yard. The part nearest the house is the lower level. About 20 feet out from the house there is an upper level about 6 feet taller. There is a privacy fence around the whole thing. So, I think I just have different micro climates and they bloom sort of willy nilly. All of these areas, but particularly the lower level, are protected from the north winter wind. Sounds like that may be the case with you - having a bayou wall. Are you in southeast texas? I grew up down there but don't ever recall seeing blue bonnets. Seems like they prefer drier conditions, but it's been a while. I really don't think planting at different times will make a difference, but it can't hurt to try. The issue is sewing the seed when ground temps are correct. There is some growing info at the link below that may help you. Here is a link that might be useful: Native American Seed

Yesterday, we took a drive in the Bellville, Sealy area and I found several beautiful types of wildflowers in bloom. Three of them were particularly interesting to me. The first one has narrow, widely spaced leaves and delicate lavender blooms, the second has pretty yellow flowers presented in sprays, and the third had larger, yellow flowers on an upright stem, with large leaves. Can any of you provide an ID on these? Thanks, Molly Second plant: Third plant...no flowers photographed on this one, but they are daisy type, large yellow blooms on tall stalks.
