Clever...and cool! So you have blooms 24/7!

Groundhogs might eat tender green plants to torture you, but the chances are they won't cross the country to do so. They aren't eat plants in the San Fernando Valley of California, unless they are escapees from a zoo. Sometimes birds, rats or squirrels will make away with a vine, but if you live somewhere where deer venture in from the hills, they're a likely culprit. I think your best bet is protecting the vines instead of hunting down a culprit. fashion a cage over/around the young vines with chicken wire. I wouldn't worry about making it big enough to contain a mature plant, since the plants aren't in as much danger once they're big and vigorous. I'd probably stick with a a variety with fewer days to maturity for replanting at this point. You'll probably have better luck with Sugar Baby than Moon & Stars. On the other hand, you do probably have enough warm sunny weather left to manage Moon & Stars with some luck... it's in the eighties until late October, right?

Breathtaking! I guess sometimes we need to look up from our jugs and see the bigger picture. Can you imagine being there and taking that photo? Fabulous.
