What would be your dream seed storage solution?
Comments (21)Ok, so anyone who thinks gardeners can be obsessive has not yet met scrapbookers - I have just spent part of my day immersing myself in scrapbooking products, and this must be a goldmine industry. The amount of money you can spend to on products that organize all the other products you need to buy... But anyway, they have vast multitudes of organizational products, many that seem like they would apply well to seed saving/packets. From hard boxes to compartmented totes to file systems, they have it all, and usually in perky colors (if that's your thing.) So my research efforts today (not at all avoiding hilling my potatoes in this 90 degree sticky heat) conclude that it's still very difficult to find precisely what I want: binder inserts that are a) heavy-duty, b) zippered and c) multi-pocket except in the lee valley and the spinnerbait binder. But some of the scrapbooking products come close. I think I like these pages, for economy's sake, although they say they have a 'security flap' on the pouches rather than a zipper, and since the product image isn't a photo I'm not sure precisely what they mean there. But I can't beat the price, and I may just use a zippered binder to keep things contained. If my calculations are right, I should be able to store 80-100 seed packets per ~$7 set with these. 4 6x6 pockets 5 4x6? pockets I was also briefly enamoured of these, which are individual zippered pouches, but are expensive and seem like they would get too bulky too fast. 16 3.5x4.5 pockets 8 4.5x7 pockets I do recommend anyone looking for seed storage taking a browse (allocate SEVERAL hours) through the scrapbooking sites/stores, as I think everything discussed in this thread can be found there in some form or another. Capitalistbaby, thanks again for starting this thread, as you've given me the impetus I needed to actually get this research done. I think I'm going to try it! ~emmers Here is a link that might be useful: scrapbook store > storage/organization...See MoreTV Storage Solutions for bedroom
Comments (1)We bought a TV lift cabinet from ImportAdvantage and it has worked well for us, we've had it for about 3 years and the prices have come down and there are a lot more choices. Ours is a foot of the bed type cabinet. I have no connection with the company other than having purchased one of their cabinets....See MoreShort storage solution for BR closet floor
Comments (7)Such laminated particle-board cabinets might look sturdy but they aren't. The laminate is easily chipped and the drawer rollers don't tolerate a lot of abuse, but how much use will they be receiving in a closet? For me, the Closet Maid units have held-up nicely and they provide a tidy appearance for little cost. The system sold at Target offers the same wide range of storage options. Try them and toss or donate them if they don't suit....See MoreLet's start a thread about organizing/storage solutions!
Comments (66)Stringweaver, thanks so much for the info on the streamlined refrigerators! When I save up enough to remodel the kitchen in a few years, I definitely want to consider smaller appliances, both to gain counter space and to save energy. I'm afraid my picture was a bit misleading, though. Joy and I had actually pulled the refrigerator out a few feet when the circuit blew and we had to access the plug so we could plug it into an extension cord in a working outlet. Then we left it out so we could paint. It's now back in its designated space. Kathy, I hear you about being strategic with small cabinet space. I have ONE lower cabinet that has to hold my steamer, electric skillet, mixing and serving bowls, baking dishes, cutting boards, and colanders/strainer. Right now everything's in there and juuuuust barely fits, but I know I've got a set of Pyrex mixing/storage bowls I haven't yet unpacked. And I've missed them because I can't microwave or bake or freeze anything in the Chefmate melamine bowls...so even though I love them, I'm probably going to toss them. I like your idea of keeping seldom used appliances out of the kitchen. I think Shades does that too. Speaking of Shades, thanks Chris, for the pic of the built-in around a low window. I love that! It really frames the window beautifully! Also, THANK YOU for measuring your suitcases!! That is so kind of you! I'm guessing your hunch is right, and those were standard sizes. Missouribound, no, the minisplit will go on the main (only) living room wall. Smaller units in the bedrooms. What is above the ceiling in the pop out? The sky, lol. :-) A pop out in an old manufactured home is like ones you may have seen in RVs or travel trailers. The RV is driven to its camping spot and then, like an accordion, the owner pulls out (pops out) another little section from its side. If I ever moved this MH, they would literally fold it back into the house in order to be able to drive it without wind sheer. I'll try to remember to take some pics of the outside and post them. It's an inexpensive way of giving people a little more square footage, in my case 35 more sq ft makes a big difference. By the way, I really love your basket idea! I'm going to try that! Time for bed. Goodnight everyone! :-)...See MoreDLM2000-GW
