Image Resolution

Hello, I hope you can help me. I am a rookie. However, I am working on my son's elementary school yearbook. I need to have the pictures be 300 dpi resolution. Is there a way to change the pictures that I am getting from volunteer photographers so they have the required dpi resolution? The cheat sheet only gives an example of how to do this in Adobe Photoshop but I do not have that. I have what came with my Canon Elph and maybe my computer? Which is Corel and Zoom Image Browser (Canon).

Is there any way to do this without purchasing software? I would like to be able to right click on the image and call it done but I guess there is no 'easy button' for this?

Irfanview Method
Load your image into Irfanview
Select the "Image > Resize/Resample" option
In that dialog window you'll see a specific DPI data box
Simply enter whatever DPI you want without adjusting anything else in that dialog window.
Click on the "OK" button
Your image DPI has now been set to whatever you want (leaving the pixel dimensions of the image unchanged).
Use "Save As" to save this photo with a new name

Does anyone know the largest resolution accepted by photobucket? My photos are reduced. The original one can see much greater details.

Thanks for the advice guys, I appreciate it... the reason the picture I posted here is 104K is because photobucket resized it... the original is 1.32 MB. It is the same size as photos I've posted successfully to the forum on other computers... the same size as other photos that is why I think the problem is with this computer and the way it is dealing with file size... this is the only computer I have this problem on! I will play with Irfanview. I just realized something... apparently, before on my old machine (and on other computers) they are being converted to a smaller size automatically... here's what I mean Here's a link to a thread I posted over a year ago about a vacuum that a friend restored for me.... the pictures of the machine itself and the guy resoring it for me are all under 300K on the forum itself, but they are still on my memory card and they are all about 1330K on my memory card and I never changed anything about them. Is there some kind of setting where the computer automatically reduces them that I don't know about? The size posted on that thread is definitely sufficient, but it seems now that I have to make them much smaller (in size).... I still have those same pictures on my memory card and they will not post unless I reduce them significanly (I can tell whether or not something is going to post by doing preview mode, so I don't have to submit a new thread thread when I test something) Any help would be adored and appreciated... I think I'm just missing some setting or something.... I've not changed anything on the camera itself, and even if I had, the old pictures that I posted before should still post with no problem and they don't.... thanks :o) Here is a link that might be useful: Previous thread

This kind of technology is going to be great--someday. The lack of focus makes it seems like a bad camera. Just a tweak here and there and it will be great--but not there yet. Well, I can see that I have two things besides the chimney poking out of the roof, but I can't tell what they are. Just a wee bit more focus to the zoom would help!! I sure hope one is the vent stack (we've got a bit of trouble with sewer smell in this old house (new to us) and are trying to trace the source. At least it is hopeful now that the vent pipe is actually piped to the outside).

I RARELY get reeeeeeally mad, but when I do, I leave. I know that if I don't I will say something I regret. When I get that mad I just see red and I can't talk. So I go away -- usually for a couple of hours driving around in the car. Then when I've silently said all the mean things to myself, and had time to see things from his side, and generally cool down I return and we usually work things out. It helps that DH is afraid of me leaving one day and never coming back -- so he is usually a lot nicer when I get back. LOL! We've also gotten a lot better at just communicating -- rather than calling each other names and screaming, we'll say "I have no idea where you're coming from." If we say it with a dumb look on our faces it usually ends in laughter.

If you use MS Office 2003, you should have MS Office Picture Manager. Chose this to open your jpg (photo) file.
Once it opens, at the top menu, select "Picture". Depends on how large your photos are, you can either chose "Compress" and/or "Resize" to make the photo smaller size. Then, save it to another name. When I have a 1.5 MB size photos, I normally do both, compress first then, resize.

Here's step-by-step instruction:
1) Open file in MS Office Picture Manager
2) Select Picture\Compress
3) Right side menu gives 3 choices: Documents, Web Pages, E-mails. )Chose one and you'll see the size it compress it into. You can do "Edit\undo..." if you don't like it). I normally select Documents, and hit "OK" at the bottom of the menu.
4) Select Picture\Resize
5) Easiest choice is to do a "Percentage". I normally, resize from 60% and up. Again, you can play around with the different percentage to give you some idea and if you don't like it, do Edit\Undo.
6) Save or Save as your photo.

This tool also allows you to compress and/or resize multiple (Batch) photos and Save All at the same time. Select the Thumbnail icon to do multiple photos.

Be careful not to Resize too much; otherwise, your photos loses quality.

I also use this tool to "crop" the photos. If you use crop, do this before doing compress/resize.
