Going Home Already??

Hard to see in the first photo, but that thin line is a string of geese flying north. Several times today, I saw thousands flying back north.

I see the same thing going south in October. Good capture. They fly too high for me to get a shot of.

okay.....so what I'm hearing you say is.....not to buy pre-primed woodwork, but the doors may be a possibility. ?? We definitely don't want hollow doors, but we haven't decided on whether to get solid core or wood. We're going to go and look tomorrow. Which would you buy if it were your home and money was no object? (just hypothetically speaking) :-) I've heard real wood has more of a chance of warping. But is that really a problem? We live in Indiana, and we use AC or heat to keep our home at a moderate temperature. sombreuil_mongrel, you're saying that even doors sold as wood doors are NOT solid wood? They're veneer? Can that really be the case? Thanks for your replies!

Using preprimed wood/metal can be time saving initially. The long term savings are much more debateable. There will be grease/dirt/etc. on the primer. Much of that will be difficult to see and only cause a problem after painting. Fisheye/bubbles/etc will show up. Outside doors that are preprimered are not usually done with a good enough primer to last more than a couple years. I have used preprimered trim when a customer provided it, but insisted on cleaning it all with thinner/alcohol(depending on the finish being used) to avoid or at least reduce theb possible problems. That meant there was little time saved.

Everything else will look so great no one else will notice it. It's not worth losing your mind over it or redoing the whole vanity. Maybe this will make you feel better Why wouldn't the builder,who was also lived in this house before us, at least have had that sidesplash go out as far as the counter top so you wouldn't have 2 jogs in the door trim. Also why wouldn't he have moved the sink further down from the wall and doorway when he had a 111" of length to work with? I will be redoing this hall bath one of these days and correcting both mistakes. But in the 14 years we have lived here no one including family members has ever commented on either. Can't wait to see you finished bathroom.

Same thing happened to me on another thread today, done by someone different. And several others "regulars" seem to be in the habit of doing the same thing. It's annoying. For some of them, I'll bet the thoughts were - "I'll try saying this. If people agree, I'll keep it there. If people disagree, I may have to delete it." The obvious thing to say is that people who don't have the courage to allow a comment to remain in a conversation, for no better reason than to allow others to react and respond for further conversation, shouldn't make the comment in the first place. It's cowardly to say something that people respond to and then delete that comment. I think the person using the Joseph account is a she.

That's pretty neat...Believe it or not I saw Robins the other day actually about 5,6 hanging around the edge of the yard...a few days before I 'thought' I saw one...wasn't sure if I saw right...later I did see that group of them...I couldn't beleive it...

Juanita, nice to hear that the robins are returning. Sadly, they did not make it here this year. In all my years here, this is the first year that I did not spot even one robin. I have no idea why, unless they had plenty to eat elsewhere, but we also had berries here in abundance this year.
